It depends on the machete. My only machetes are cheap Tramontinas. I just sharpen them with files.

Got my scythe stone here:

Works great on the Golok and although it's quite coarse you probably don't need anything finer if it's used like mine for clearing brambles etc.

That is cheap for the stone I sell them and are more like the £5 + mark depending on make!! Didn't look at p&p though?!

What's the technique witha sythe stone then? I use my GB hockey puck because I already have one.

If the sythe stone is the proper tool for the job though, I fancy having a go :)

I'd also like to add that my golok is a MOD one so is more club than machete :P

Run the blade down it as though you were trying to carve of bits off the stone.

Run the blade down it as though you were trying to carve of bits off the stone. The same basic principle as using japanese waterstones then, just not as so fine'a'job.

Im doing up some british army goloks at the moment and as has been said they are more club than blade... But I have been putting a convex edge on them with my 1" belt sander and they come up lovely and sharp. and keep sharp through use too. Its gonna be a step by step article once i have finished the first properly.
