Now that I have got a bivvy bag, I'm thinking about doing this, see below,to allow sitting and lounging in midge season. I go away for 6wks in the summer so will be back for Aug and still midges. Cheap mesh from http://www.profabrics.co.uk

Anyone done similar ?

No but before I started to use a hammock and mossie net, I did toy with the idea but could not decide on how to attach the mesh to the bivvi bag, just out of interest have you sewn in a zip or attached velcro..? By the way it looks great.

Eh...... it's a photo ofa bivvy for over a hundred kwid and it ain't mine. It's from a website. :o http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/ (http://)

Was going to just glue a velcro strip inside the zip, then just velcro it in and fold it before zipping up in rain.

It looks good, but bivi's can get awfuly sweaty, particularly if its warm enough to need the bug net.I had to mod my bivi, as the bug net was only attached with press studs, leaving gaing holes under the net

'tis true, bivvy sacks can get awfully sweaty in hot weather. But you should be able to buy a hooped bivvy somewhere on the net. Try http://www.mec.ca

Sorry Nick,
I didnt read your post properly, I have used a bivvy for years in the mob and have carried on using them for all of the years since leaving. I have never found them to cause condensation build up on my sleeping bag, but maybe thats because I have only ever used the army issue one. It is definately not flash and it is not very expensive in comparison to some, but it does the job,
and generally keeps me warmer than just using the bag on its own. I do know that my mates love their bivvy bags and that a useful mod would only increase the uses that it may be put to, as warmer springs, summers and autumns mean the flying thingys are a little more abundant than usual and that a hammock and mossie net are not always useable. If you find any other "idiot guides" showing bivvy/netting mods, then please put them up

Cheers Shankly
