Just a heads up.

I was poking around in Hobbycraft the other day when I came across some luminous plastic beads with big holes through that I thought would be great for stringing on guy lines.

They were just 49p for a pack which contained 29 and as I thought they are just the right size for my reflective cord guy lines.

The only down side is the shapes. There were three types. Flowers, hearts or butterflies.

I went for flowers to get in touch with my sensitive side... :p

Does luminous mean it glows in the dark. Reason I am asking is that I bought a set of "luminous" guy lines from Winfields at Hasligden. They are bright yellow in colour, but they dont actually glow in the dark. They are made by Outwell.

Yes. Properly used the term Luminous "should" mean Photo Luminecent (sp?)

ie. They glow in the dark either because they are radioactive (Tritium beta lights etc.) or as in this case they absorb light in the day and give it back out in the dark.

These are the latter type. I haven't tested how long they glow for and they are not quite as bright as the luminous line locks "eds" is getting on the group buy, but they are still quite visible in the dark.

On my guy lines I can leave them free to move on the line so they do not get in the way but they are a good enough fit they tend to stay where I put them.

You might also consider Kelty Triptease Lightline. Makes great knife lanyards as well and it's a lot easier to find your knife (and your camp) in the dark. :)

They are made of reflective material - also something to watch is that they stretch out when moist/damp making your guy lines sag. They do tighten up again when dry. Just something to watch out for!

I've got reflective guys on my hex fly (and my vango tent) but have heard talk about 'glow in the dark' string :)

I've been using Kelty Triptease for quite a few years now and I've found very little stretching when wet. This is a very densely woven line. Far more dense than say, paracord. The line is reflective and catches light extremely well. You can spot your tent or tarp from a pretty great distance.

OK. I've just ordered 1000 of these round ones (http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/plastic_glow-in-the-dark_beads.html) so I'm going to have some spare.

They are hardly worth posting out so I'll take them with me to meets and moots ( where they are needed most ) and distribute them to anyone who sees me.

A viking with 1000 glow-in-the-dark beads and luminous flowers on his guylines shouldn't be too hard to spot! :240:
