Whats peeps thoughts on the snugpack Bergan? I am after a bigger sack for longer trips and wanted to come in under £100 cheaper if possible. I want olive as the pack may be also used for travelling and I know some courses wont allow dpm......anyway just your thoughts on the pack.

Hi Tommy,
i do not have one and i have never had one. However, i know a couple of people who have and the reports are mixed. They all agree on one thing, the quality is second to none, well worth the price, top build quality and first class materials. Where they differ is this, the shorter people like them, the taller people seem to get aching backs with them but some guy's wear webbing with them and dont get aching backs.
Apparently the dimensions are similar to short back PLCE bergans which were designed to be worn with webbing. Please do not take this as 'red' but this is what i have been told. The shorter your stature (5'4" to 5'9") they work well (if you have an average size or above average size back, if you have a short back and long legs, maybe not!) If you are tall (over 5'9") then you can wear it with webbing as this assissts the support, without it weighs heavy on the upper back with not much support on the lower Lumbar region and hips.
Then again, i could be seriously misinformed. If you get one, let me know!

Yes I am only 5ft 6 in ish so I pressume I am a short back.
Just wondered if they are worth the money over an army issue or webtext?
Quite like that waterproof built in cover in dpm as well as it looks bomb proof.

Jedadiah, you appear to be talking about the Snugpak Rocketpak. this is a 45litre pack with 2x 15l side pockets - its designed to be worn over belt kit.
Tommy, I have the Snugpak Bergen, and find it a pretty good bit of kit, albeit a little too large for my purposes (its 90l main pack and 2x15l side pockets)
I may be getting hold of the Karrimor Sabre 75 soon, so might have a (very) lightly used Snugpak bergen available for sale......

I am 5'6" tall and own and love my Snugpak Bergan which I use for major treks and expeds. fits well carries it all and is only showing a little wear.
I also have a Webtex ultimax which I also love but cannot use abroad as it is DPM and the company I lead expeds for will not let us use cammo kit.

Sorry Tommy, Dommy and everyone else. You are right, i was talking about the 'Rocket Pack'.
Sorry for any confusion, :o or maybe it's just me thats confused  !
Was thinking about picking up a snugpac burgen myself, so the confusion help's me ;)
Looking at the pictures (which are all the same whatever site your on) the material look's pretty thin and cheap, the nasty nylon shine gives me this impression so i may be wrong. If anybody could post some good(ish) pictures of the backsystem i would be a happy chappy, or maybe p.m me and i'll send you my email address. I must say though that snugpac stuff has always been very well built in my experience so i'd be suprised if any of their sacs were not top dollar

The Bergan has a VERY simple back, which I like but if you want lots of padding and adjustment look elsewhere. The fabric is about half the weight of military kit but tough texturized nylon and it is VERYwell made. Mine has survived a couple of very hard month long desert and mountain expeds with almost no sign of use, and it is going with me for another month - this time to the jungle - and I forsee no probs.

I have rocket pack and use it on longer trips and find it extremely comfy to wear.
Prefer fixed backsystems myself as it goes, really want a BH Vulcan but begrudge paying £140 or so for a sack i'll only use once a year, but then agian i'll not have to buy another before i die :beerchug:
Any chance of a picture of the backsytem mr Fenna :o

Hi I've been reading this thread with interest, It does not directly apply to me as I have my sights firmly set on a Karrimor Sabre pack too, not sure on the size yet, prob 75 but maybe 45 if I can whittle my kit down a bit. (Already have the sabre 30L, very small but indestructable)
But I read a couple of people mentioned that DPM is not allowed on courses? Please somebody enlighten me because this sounds daft to me. I don't personally carry much DPM equip at present, just my basha, but my friend was thinking of getting a DPM pack. Would this mean my basha and his pack are not safe for courses? :(
I have not heard of specific courses not permitting DPM but there is general advice when travelling in various parts of the world to avoid appearing too 'Military'. This may be what is being referrred to ?

I believe I read that a course in Sweden would not allow dpm on here?
Also as mentioned some sensitive areas in the world best advised not to....D
I think the olive green snugpack bergan has a waterproof built in cover that is in dpm so best of both worlds...the search continues D
