I have attended two meets in succession and on both occasions have torn the corner loops on my Hennesy Hex Fly. I must say I think the construction of this otherwise excellent piece of kit is decidedly poor in this area. Myself and Sandsnakes (Rod the elder ;) ) were pondering over this problem and he came up with an excellent idea that I have now put into practice. The existing loops were cut off and the plastic rings retained (I have done away with the useless little plastic clips as they were of a particularly cheap and nasy construction and I discovered two had already snapped without ever having even been used  ). I aquired some half inch black nylon webbing (sacrificed my GPS's carry case strap ;) ) and had it professionally stitched along each of the four corner seams forming a loop at each corner by folding over. The fixings are now at hurricane strength and the tarp resembles a piece of kit I can have confidence in when in the field. The reflective replaced guy lines were kindly aquired for me by Rod (the younger) - Well done Sandsnakes :You_Rock_

Nifty! nice bit of sewing there. Unfortunately I too had a corner tie out rip out of my hennessy fly. Not their greatest design feature.

Not their greatest design feature. It's not that difficult and if you can lay your hands on the webbing any high street taylor would probably sort it for you for next to nothing. Even if you have a go with the sewing machine yourself it doesn't matter if it doesn't look all neat and tidy so long as it holds! :)

I sent it back to hennessy and they sent me a replacement plus a PU hex fly as way of appology.
But since then I've sewed a sil flysheet which is just a bit lighter.

Hi Silverback,

I think that you owe most of the credit to Jason Sears here mate.

After all it was his big feet that started you on this road of customisation wasn't it? :lmao:

Nice work buddy ;)

Mine went on the corner of my Hex first time out. I contacted Hennessy and they sent me a new one and told me to keep the old one even though it was only one loop gone and was easily fixed. So now I've got two hex tarps, that what I call good service :D

But it was the stupendus brain power of the two Rods combined that dreampt up the mod!! :lmao:

Actually I saw a similar tie used on the remains of an ancient Egyptian burial shroud a couple of years back. So the idea is a modern interpretation of something long established. So when the great bushcrafter in the sky calls they can wrap you in your fly and we will bury you in the woods and you will be in good company :lmao: :p

Keep on trucking!
