I've been looking for a new, tough, versatile (and inexpensive) folder lately and have my eye on the SOG Flash II (drop point, part serrated).

Just wondering if anyone had any better suggestions for around £30?

I have to admit part of the attraction to the Flash is the SAT, but I'm sure I could get along just fine with pure thumb power :o

Opinel? SAK? Quite like that Light my fire job too (except it seems hare to find one thats not part serrated)

I must say - why serrations? DO you cut a lot or rope or something?

I was just thinking it would be more versatile; it would probably see more use as an at home utility knife than out in the wood. I got a cheap Mora that's been able to do everything I've asked of it so far, but I like the idea of a quick opening folder (those plastic sheaths can be fiddley) and was thinking I should really opt for a different blade style to have that choice of what's best for the job.

I already have Opinels and SAKs (Opinel is EDC, and there's always an SAK near by for bottle opening duties etc), but I'm looking for quick, one handed deployment and a secure lock.

I'd recommend against a fully serrated blade, but for general use, I don't have a problem with part serrated.
Used to have a folder marketed as a garden knife... three inch blade, half serrations. Probably the best general purpose pocket knife I've had.
