Thinking of replacing my punctured Nomad self inflating sleep mat with a gelert backpackers air bed. The latter is cheap at £9-99 and used with my basic foam mat might well provide comfort and insulation. Does this make sense or am I looking at a false economy??
I use a gelert self inflating mat in my hammock and it works well. Don't really see a need for a foam mat and a self inlating mat together ?

Nor would I. I'm thinking of using a lightweight air bed with a closed cell foam mat for insulation and comfort at around £10 so I don't have to fork out £50 on a thermarest. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
The gelert mats compare well with the thermarests. The one I have is the 3/4 lightweight coffin shaped one, depth, weight and size wasn't much different from thermarest equivalent, but it was less than £20! It seems sturdy enough and works just as well as more expensive types.

Or you could also look at the Airic range. Good kit in my opinion, and pretty good prices too.
