Does anyone have experience of the blizzard bag? I saw one advertised on ebay where they said it was waterproof, incredibly lightweight, very warm and just £25 new. Sounds too good to be true, but maybe its just what I'm looking for. Any help would be much appreciated.

You could get this - the same thing by the sounds of it, for less.

Hi Treadlightly
Blizzard Bags are the one of the best products to hit the hillwalking market for years. All the claims are true. I work on a Mountain Rescue Team in Scotland and all our guys carry one as personal survival equipment for if they get lost, injured or benighted. We also use the bags as a first layer for an injured casualty backed up with regular sleeping bags/ Casbag etc.
I think as an emergency peice of kit its light years ahead of an orange survival bag or a frankly dangerous 'survival sheet'.
Having said all this for regular camping/bushcraft etc they dont replace a standard bag as the material is noisy and not as comfortable as a normal doss bag and once the vacume packing is undone youll never get it back to that size!
( Though you can get a stuff sack).
Definatly worth the money if youre a hillman or an adventure racer but for bushcraft go for the traditional bag/ goretex bivi.
Ta Ed

Check out www.blizzardsurvival.co.uk for the kit I think Treadlightly's talking about.
You're not wrong though I carry a group shelter for my hill party in addition to a blizzard bag, then if we all get lost (god forbid) we can get inside the blizzard bags then in the group shelter. cosy :D

I bought a blizzard tube that will fit up to 3 folk. I bought it off ebay for £22 and it is a wonderful lifesaver for when I'm out in the canoe incase I get a swim and need to get warm n dry n out the wind.

I would recommend them to all as an emergency only item in your survival kit.

For emergency kit they're great, I carry one all the time both for myself and when I'm taking groups out., I am tempted to buy a new one that hasn't been opened...

Personally I wouldn't use one as an everyday bag, they sound like you're sleeping in a sweet wrapper and the you'll get quite a bit of condensation build up.

My mistake, tired and wine.

Those bothy shelters are the business, but in this situation I think an Army bivvy bag sounds the answer. Mine gets used quite a bit and makes life that bit more pleasant.
