You could always have a go at making one yourself out of sil-nylon for an ultralight option. I know hennessy and a few other hammock companies make tarps for their systems out of sil-nylon... you may be able to get something from one of them.

Have a word with FastCelt. He was using a cheap 3x3 decathlon one at the weekend. Bison Bushcraft are doing some very light ones at the mo.

bivouac equipment
basha/tarp
45 euros 1.85*2.95 m

VERY light, “flectarn” colour, loads of eyelets and hoops.

I got one from them and I recommend it. The delivery was rather slow though.

These are as cheap as chips, and do a good job

The seller does various sizes and posts fast (I've no connection with him or her). For the few quid they cost they are worth trying out, you may well be supprised :)

I noticed that SASS Kit (www.sasskit.co.uk (http://www.sasskit.co.uk)) have 600grams light weight basha (silnylon I think?).

They have an even lighter on but it only comes in DPM. See here (http://www.sasskit.co.uk/products/militaryfoulweathershelters/superbasha.htm):- 371 grams.

However as with most things I suspect that the lighter they are the less durable they will be.

Try this link to the Mountain Equipment Coop

They are a Canadian Coop. You pay a couple of dollars and become a member.
Fantastic kit and, with the current exchange rate, a real winner.
They post most things to the UK and if it's not too big or expensive the VAT man is not interested.

I have been using them for years and are great value.

I don't know what the Aussie style is but you can't get much lighter than the BMW tarps - 3.5 oz. to 9.5 oz.

In particular, you might consider this one (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp;jsessionid= FKNGFFyvbNDvDZdFR92ZvckCL8vPd1 yvQ6bdpGNRJPy13RYtVkhv!1051550 468?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524 442505767&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=25343743 02702975&bmUID=1170869638555) or this one (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp;jsessionid= FKNGFFyvbNDvDZdFR92ZvckCL8vPd1 yvQ6bdpGNRJPy13RYtVkhv!1051550 468?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524 442505763&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=25343743 02702975&bmUID=1170869638553) . Both are silnylon and very, very light. I'm going to get me one of those this year to replace my massive blue plastic utility tarp. :)

think I might call in at Decathlon next time I'm in Sheffield (unless someone happens to be passing ;) )

The Bison trap looks tempting though. But I figure try the decathlon one as see if I take to it for walking before spending anotehr £40

I still have to recommend my kathmandu tarp. 3x3.5m, added a few extra loops along the ridge line. fantastic, friendly service from Wendy.
