If you waxed it, it'd make a great water carrier.

Been having a look through your Flikr album and I saw your handmade signature stamp - any chance of a guide on this? I would love to make a stamp for my leatherwork!

Great bag by the way - one of these days I'll learn the art of that amazing stitching you do on the side panels!

It looks like a small cold chisel. Have you just ground away the bits you don't want?

Lovely work all round.

The stamp is made from a piece of mild steel. Cut to length and then file the ends square. Mark the design on the end, making sure you use the mirror image of the final design and then just file or grind away the rest of the stuff. I didn't harden it (mild steel anyway) because I'll only use it on leather.

Hope that helps. When you want to learn how to do the stitching, just give me a shout.

Brilliant:

I'd really like to see the detail of how you did those butt joints.

Blinding response - fantatastic. Awling through at a consistent angle like that's going to be too hard for me just yet. I'm going to practice tonight...

Have some rep!

I've just drooled through your other photos - pleeease tell me that's not just a casual interest, otherwise there's no hope for the rest of us. It's just fantastic. Please, don't wait to be asked, a few tutorials would be great (Crook knife case, axe mask, ect).

Keep it up and show us more!

I'll put a few more up when I have something new to show :p This is not my main job but I do spent a lot of time on it trying to improve myself. Still lots of things to learn. Wish I can learn from a saddler!!! :(

On the butt stiching...
Is it the case that the holes in the side piece are aimed to exit the back of the leather at the corner between the edge and back.
So the thread travels the whole width of the leather but exits right next to the other peice resting against it?

Nice work btw

Refer to the drawing. That's where I like the exit hole to be. That way, the leather protects the thread in the bag. But a little variation should not show up in the final product.
