Hello all,

Got an old friction fit sheath for a Mora thats lost its friction! Is it possible to re-shrink the leather, say the top inch or so of the sheath so it regains its grab. Would dipping it in hot water do the trick.

I'd be tempted to add a little spare leather and rivet it - the spare laether will keep the blade from the rivet.

If it's made of veg tanned leather, then just wet it and reshape it around the knife again. Let it dry fully first before using. Best to wrap the knife up in a thin layer of cling film before putting it in the wet sheath.

I've had disasterous results with hot water - cold or tepid should be fine.

If it's been waxed/treated to stop the water getting in then you might have a problem, when properly wet the leather will become very soft and plyable/moldable.

Put the plastic wrapped knife in the wet sheath and then wrap something round it to tighten it up - doesn't have to be too tight. Whatever you wrap it in will leave it's impression on the leather though, so make it something smooth - when I did this I wrapped it in another piece of leather and then bound the whole lot in paracord to tighten it - I still got left with a slight line where the wrapping joined though - put that on the back.

Let us know how you get on....

if all else fails and you are very attached to the sheat it might be possibe to stitch in an inch wide strip into the top of the sheath.
