Hi, I'm new to this site. V interesting. But forgive me if this has been raised already: I'm having trouble working out how the site works.

I have an elderly reversible fleece jacket. It is fleece on one side and pertex on the other. There is a pertex hood that folds into the collar. There are two pockets at waist level on inside and outside, not connected. The zip flips over so you can use it in either pertex or fleece mode. It has the word "Survival" embroidered into the fleece material at the point where you would find a chest pocket, if it had one. Which it doesn't. I've a feeling I bought it in Manchester, about 13 years ago. It's a great piece of kit: a medium weight fleece, with a comfortable pertex lining in one incarnation, a toasty warm windproof jacket in the other.

It's much better than a laminated fleece.

But now it is old and worn out, much like me... and I can't find a replacement anywhere. Shops keep offering me windstopper laminated fleece instead, and seem surprised when I politely decline.

Anybody any idea if these can still be bought? If so, where from? Or is there a modern manufacturer/version. Thanks

i haven't seen these for years.

they seem to have been taken over by as you say:

windstopper laminated fleece instead

the other comonly available option is buffalo syle clothing, pertex outer/fleece inner.

i think the reversable thing died of a few years ago, because, although sensible becasue you in effect have 2 styles of jacket which is great from a fashion point of view.
in practice the jacket will always be more effective fleece side in, as the pertex will stop warm air collected being lost.

fleece side out air canb freely move around the fibres thus loosing heat.

which sadly again was one of the points of the design, a warm and cool side.

i worked in British home stores a few years ago and they sold the design, but an inferior make and in female designs only.(certainly not windproof).

so it is still made but prehaps it may be easier to get one made! :(

sorry i can't give a more poissitive answer!
(i have the same problem with oner of my jackets, they just decided to stop making them!)

Thanks for your help. I've been very helpfully referred to Penrith Survival Equipment, who apparently made these jackets when the firm was known as Survival Aids. I've spoken to the chap there-very pleasant, but can't help. They don't make them any more. He too has recommended Bufallo. I've never worn this, I know a chap in Mountain rescue who swears by them, but suggests they're so good that they're simply too warm for everyday use!

Anyway, sadly, I'll just have to write this off. Thanks again.

if you are passing Silsden call at the Snugpak factory - they had a few trial onece in a few weeks ago.

The other option would be a "normal fleece" a Pertex only smock. I use this or wool jumper/swanni and pertex. Best of both world as it gives you plenty of option for temperature control

I didn't know the snugpack factory was in Silsden. That's only round the corner from me. I'll pop in. Thanks.
