Dying 60-100 Karrimor Independence?

Is it possible to dye the 60-100 Karrimor Independence with out harming its water-proof coating I have one CHERRY RED and grey and thought i might tone down the colour a bit. I've had the bag for 8years still going strong with no faults or weaknesses.

can't you buy somesort of cover? possible in a more muted colour.

I've being thinking of that myself. Maybe a rain cover in green
