View Full Version : Listen to nature (Brit. Library): explore wildlife sounds by animal group
There are a number of clips of wildlife recordings available
on the British Library's website that I thought might be of
interest.

If you are interested in doing this sort of thing outdoors with kids you might want to look at www.sharingnature.com Its the site of a guy called Joseph Cornell who has written quite a few books on the subject and runs great inspirational courses.

Journey to the heart of Nature - This is the basis for the John Muir Award scheme
Don't be put off by the slightly 'tree-hugging' feel. Kids love his stuff and he is a great guy :)

Great link
I love listening to these sounds and have often thought of getting a few dvd's to play with forest sounds on. I find something warming about being able to listen to them whilst indoors or should i say whilst comfortable and warm. The thunderstorm one is very good as is the rain.
Ever since hearing a trance cd with whale songs on it several years ago i have kept my eye out for whale songs on their own, not dolphin clicking but the mysterious whale.
Has anyone got a link?
I just googled whale sounds to see what would happen...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=whale+sounds&meta=
The first link http://www.whalesounds.com/ shows promise, although
if I'm entirely honest with you I can't really tell the difference between
whales and rusty gates at the moment  They are hypnotic though.
I've been listening tonight to the soundtrack of a programme about
the BBC Radiophonic workshop so I might have maxed out my
quota for bleeps and bloops today :)

Tangerine Dream bought out an album called song of the whale and it is beautiful....
Great link Jodie........
Another sounds site http://www.findsounds.com/types.html
If you like nature sounds try this
http://www.relaxingsoftware.com/atmdeluxehome.htm
There are add on scenarios including Walesongs which are free once you've bought the software. A really good package for just listening to or for recording into music soundtracks.

I bought one of their albums once on the recommendation of a friend and it
was a bit heavy going; I don't think it was the whale one though which might
be a bit more relaxing. Perhaps I should try that one instead!
Happy birthday for the other day by the way.

Thank you........What album was it, some of them are very hard going, but some are fantastic. Song of the whale is one of the good ones..........
It was 'music from the original motion picture soundtrack 'Sorcerer'' and
I can't think why I picked that one over any other. Probably what was
available in the shop
