Spoke with one of the federal enforcement rangers in our state, about Tim's discovery of a strange campsite (see Kids Camping thread).

While we were talking, I asked him about working for the feds in the boundary waters after I retire. He said there were many avenues to approach this. One of the least painful, to see if you are really interested, is to designate a week and contact the USFS about it. They provide canoes, tents, equipment, and a per diem. You go out and clear portages, dig new latrines, and the like. Plenty of time left over to fish, paddle, and take photos.

Thought this might be a way to take some of the expense off a trip to our neck of the woods for those of you who might be interested in visiting.
