View Full Version : Tarp help needed
Hello all,
I used my GoLite Hex 3 for the first time, at the moot. Very happy I am with it, but, I'm looking for a light tarp, about 3 x 3 metres so I can rig up a cooking shelter.
So, any good UK suppliers I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance
magikelly does great group buys for the tatonka 3x3 tarp

You could try a tatonka tarp (either poly-cotton or polyester). Andrew (outdoorcode) can supply them if there isn't a group-buy on at the moment.

I advocate the tatonka tarp, which served very well through the rain at the bushmoot. I have the cotton version, which is lovely.
You could try kathmandu trekking (http://home.freeuk.net/kathmandu/index.html) - lots of people have said their 3x3 tarp is great - although I don't know if they are trading or not still.
the cheapest i have seen totonka tarps www.genuinearmysurplus.co.uk
I used the MagiKelly group buy Tatonka 3mx3m at the moot. It was excellent; with a couple of poles to lift one edge it covered two of us in hammocks.

I bought a 3x3 meter Tatonka poly tarp from Magikelly's group buy. As it was my first tarp I was unsure how I would get along with it, answer, PERFECTLY. It weighs under 1kg packs down small and is easy to erect and adjust. Although it came with some orange guy lines I also bought some Hootchie guy lines (1 x 7 meter [5mm thick] 4 x 4 meter [2mm thick] from Woodlore for £10 (Delivered) which do a great job.
There are no ridge loops on this tarp however, but there are slits on either side of the ridge so I use 2 lengths of the Woodlore lines to hang the tarp with a Tautline hitch / Rolling hitch then peg it out on either side using the lines supplied or using more of the Woodlore lines attach the sides to supports to open up the tarp (hope that all makes sense, I must remember my camera when I go out) :(
Anyway as I say this is my first tarp so have nothing to compare it to, but I (as a beginer) have had no trouble at all with it :) .
ATB & happy shopping....Stu

Wendy at Kathmandu was a joy to deal with a couple of months ago and my 3x3 tarp is top notch!
I can recommend the company! :headbang:
