Not in S. Wales anymore, but born and bred in Newport.
Used to spend a fair bit of time canoeing on the Mon-Brecon canal, camping in Goytre, Shirenewton, Botany Bay nr/ Tintern, Gilwern, loads of walks around the Beacons and the Black Mountains.

I often go up llanwonno(i think i spelt that wrong) nice and quiet and easy to reach from my house.
