Hi,
I'm thinking of a trip to Scotland but I'm uncertain of the areas that can be freely accessed (are there any at all!!?) etc.
Are you able, for instance, to canoe a lock and camp on shore?
Or just disappear into some woods?
All advice welcome.
Thanks,
Phil

Yeah, pretty much. :)

You're in luck - in Scotland, you can camp and paddle almost anywhere within reason.
Have a look at the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (http://www.outdooraccess-scotland.com/default.asp) and the Mountaineering Council of Scotland Wild Camping Leaflet (http://www.mountaineering-scotland.org.uk/leaflets/wildcamp.html).
Do it - you'll love it! Just watch out for the midgies... ;) :)

Hmmm... It depends. They're very strongly affected by weather, and Scotland is notorious for microclimates. It's possible there will be none, it's equally possible that there will be millions, and it's quite likely that both conditions will exist within a few miles (or even a few hundred metres) of each other. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. ;)
