evening all,
just to say hi, looks like a great site...sooo much info.
I'm planning on coming to the Moot, never been to anything like it...I did do a weekend survival course and I'm keen to learn anything, I think bushcraft is something very useful.
What should I bring to the Moot? I guess a tent, etc but do i bring food for the duration or do i dive in feet first and rely on the skills I hope to learn? do i need a knife? flints? etc, etc...
thanks for any assistance, looking forward to learning!
see you all soon, Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan
Welcome to BCUK .Good question i'm sure someone will come up with a list of essentials, i've never been to anything like it either so will be interested to see what others have to say as all being well i'm hoping to be there.

Yes, I would be interested in a sort of list. I have one for wild camping but what would I take to a meet?

Now I'm no expert at this so don't take my word as gospel,
Take as much or as little as you want. Enough to be comfortable, but not so much as to be a burden. It's going to be a great learning opportunity so the more comfortable you are - the more you're likely to learn.
If you're planning on feeding yourself from the hedgerows, remember that you might be in competition with everyone else who is looking to learn the art of foraging - so you'll not get any fatter ;) .
There has been a request in one of the threads about refraining from trapping the local wildlife, as there will be trap/snare demos going on during the moot - there's many folk who want to learn the skills but we don't want to decimate the environment.
What I'm trying to say is, bring some food; theres an opportunity to replenish from the local village so you shouldn't have to go daft.
If you have a knife, bring it, though please be sensitive to the sheeple whilst travelling to and from the site. Same with other kit, bring what you have, especially if you intend practicing with it or need some pointers in its use.
Theres bound to be someone else along with other ideas but I'll be there with the familly so we'll have a car full

Hi Jonathan and welcome to bcuk
As for the moot i would treat it as a standard camping trip make your self as comfortable as you can depending on your mode of transport if your in a car then its car camping and you can have loads of toys and stuff with you if not and its all on your back then you'll have to decide what you can carry and be comfortable living with for 5 days. As for food i would plan in catering not forageing there are some supermarkets a short drive from the site so you can procure what food you need from them that you haven't brought with you. As for tools a knife is always going to be a good idea so you can use it when you like if you don't have a knife then that wont be a problem either.
any more questions just ask
James
