looks like an American Snapper turtle/terrapin.....although I'm sure some of our transatlantic friends will confirm it [or not]..... hope it was'nt filmed in the UK... they eat everything.........

It was in the UK. :( I need to find the reference but I'm sure my wife said she read something about them and saw they take ducklings etc.

Aha!

it might last over the winter, needs removing though as it will probably be the top predator in the pond, the native fauna will all be eaten

You're right, I did miss the thread, but I'm not convinced. For one thing the shell is not obvious, and the body appears long and thin....

Ahhhh!

Apparently they can stretch their necks quite a long way, which may give the impression that their is a thin body beneath the water....
