I am off to Oz soon, and plan to bring a few good bits of kit back with me.

Has anyone ever spoken to someone who has been in the Oz forces? If not, find one and watch their faces when you say how much you have to pay for a hoochie over here

When i looked into getting some from Oz lasty year, it seems like most surplus shops do them for about £30.

I plan to have a bit of a rummage when i am over there, so I will let you know what I find.

I got some ex-issue auscam stuff from a friend who was in the forces over there. Mel wears the trousers all the time now, so they must be good.

i'm serving in the ADF at the moment (3RAR) so if anyone's got any ?? regarding ADF kit feel free to ask i'll be happy to help.

regarding the hootchie, you'll pick it up from some of the better known army surplus stores for about AUD$30-40 depending on if you want a OD one or one with Auscam pattern.

regards
Jeelan

Look here....

http://www.survivalschool.co.uk/acatalog/Shelters_and_Hammocks.html

The one at the top of the page, olive drab, large 2.5m x 1.7m lots of loops and eyelets and £24.99

I just got one last week and it's superb, a really nice piece of gear - I cant imagine how any of the others are better finished. I'm very pleased with it - In fact I might even buy a spare.

Just for reference, AUD$10 works out at about £4!

Any labels on it Martyn? Sounds like the one I got from Penrith Survival.

However, for the ultimate finish, you want the SASS Basha sheet that has eyelets, D-rings, tapes and cordura reinforced corners. Top kit in my book! :biggthump

Packs down small too - no problem popping it into a crusader mug...

The nylon has some kind of wax coating - it has a waxey feel to it anyway.

Apart from the fact that his are AusCam, pretty much :-D

You'll find that at night the olive green melts into the darkness ... can be darn hard to find!

According to his site, he only has OG, no AusCam - still £60 though.

I might buy another. :-D

Well, they wouldn't be £4 ... AUD$40 would be £16 ...

Now I just need to find someone in Aus to send me one ...

I decided that I wanted a big basha to accommodate my two (only  ) friends too. After a long search I bought a Hilleberg Tarp 10 XP http://www.hilleberg.com/Catalog/tarp_10_xp_2038988.htm, made of silicone coated polyester.
It is very light and compresses very small, but when opened out is GINORMOUS (3.5 x 3 m / 11.5 x 10 ft)!
No worries of your feet wiggling out during the night. It's like a hotel! I would have liked a central loop, but the Hilleberg doesn't have one. I work around it by using a childrens soft "ball pit" ball http://store2.yimg.com/I/tinkertots_1781_4451023
and a cloth tie like this:
http://www.safelink.net/wilory/wtwg/pictures/sn.gif

Being on a bit of a basha-buying-spree, I also bought an Integral Designs Sil-Tarp2 http://www.integraldesigns.com/tarps-frame.htm

This is smaller, but very light and compact. I bought Hilleberg line-runners and guy line to use with it.
