View Full Version : Crab/Lobster pots
I have a load of wire mesh from a chipmunk run I once made and am now looking into making a lobster/Crab pot for holidays at the coast etc
Is it legal to trap these or is a permit required?
Is there any special technique is it possible from the beach

the old way would be with hazel
otherwise; make a frame some 24" x 18" out of some bits of wood 2"x1" would do. . leave some gaps in the frame. fill these with concrete. drill 6 1" holes in the outer long side of the frame [each corner and middle]. get 3 x 11/2" rods of green hazel and steam bend them into arcs whittle ends down and push into holes. clad in mesh all round. buy cheap kids bucket and cut off bottom. cut hole in mesh. stitch bucket into mesh narrow end inwards. attach rope and buoy [milk carton]. bait up with something smelly. throw in water. watch local lobstermen get angry.
alternatively look on ebay for plastic prawn pots.
