Highlander Gear

I have been looking at a lot of highlander gear and to me it seems nice. Good prices, however. I wat your opinion on it.

Is it good gear?

All the bits i've used and seen are pretty good.

i especially rate the thermalite sleeping mats - cheap and come with repair kits!

I have a Highlander forces 33 rucksack it is very well made all the zips and straps are very robust and dont snag. It comes with a cover inside the hood to make it all a bit more waterproof. The cover even has a clip so you dont lose it when you get little bits of kit out. The side pockets are designed to take the current issue water bottle. They seem to have paid a lot of attention to detail like this but have kept the price to an affordable level. When I need a new large sac I will be getting another Highlander. All of their kit I have looked at seems well made and up to the job. :D

Great! I have continually been noticing them at many stores and I keep thinking its either because its good and affordable or cheap and nasty, but it seems to be good and affordable :D

I like it when companies try hard, highlander seem to have a product for everything which is also good.

Personally - unless I want to treat it as disposable I wouldn't touch most of their kit with a bargepole.

Interesting thread that George...it seems about 8:2 would disagree with you. Actually I'll make that 9:2. I think Highlander gear is fantastic "bang for buck" - nearly as good as a Frost Mora.

Now Karrimor and Snugpak are a ripoff IMHO - I've had fairly expensive kit from both companies give up the ghost while my Highlander gear was bought before that stuff which is now in the bin! In fact I wouldn't take a Karrimor Bergan as a gift now.

Fair enough Red - if it does you then go for it.

I'd stand by what I said though - I use outdoor kit for a living and spend a lot of money on it - the only things I would buy from Highlander (and I do) are their cheap socks, fleece hats and gloves - but I treat them as disposable.

I wouldn't touch their rucsacs, tents or sleeping bags with the bargepole I mentioned earlier.

(I think I'd echo your views on snugpak too though!)

Just got back from a night out using a highlander rucsac for the first time and I'd recommend the rucsac. Good adjustable back system made for a comfortable carry. My only negative point is that the pockets could do to be a bit bigger IMO, but apart from that, solid and value for money.

i use a highlander silk sleeping bag liner. It works as well as my wifes one that cost twice as much.


I would never skimp on a sleeping bag. Its Rab for me. the day sacs look ok.

I think I've said it in an earlier thread but I've used a Highlander 35l, 15 quid rucksack on my daily walk to work for what must be a couple of years and it is absolutely faultless - particularly as I tend to carry it by just the one strap.

Haven't had any troubles with my Highlander Forces 88 rucksack so far, it has done the job well, and is comfy. It perhaps isn't as sturdy as the top of the range rucksacks and won't last as long, but for the price you can't complain.

Used a Highlander 33 for a little bit, does the job, no worries. Prefer my Atmos 50 though (but hey, 3 times the price).
