Came across this little fact over on the OS website
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/freefun/geofacts/

The remotest point was calculated to be the hillside of Ruadh Stac Beag, between Letterwe Forest and Fisherfield Forest.
The Grid Reference is NH 02550 77010

Distance to nearest road = 11km or 7 miles away. The nearest road is the A832.

For this purpose, the remotest part of mainland Great Britain is considered to be the point farthest from a metalled road.

Remotest place, 7 miles ... I bet out US and Aussie friends are chortling at us now!!!!

I for one ain't laughing. It just makes me better appreciate what I have. I wish everyone had easy access to wilderness.

One dark day our little island, the once green and pleasant land will be gone - buried beneath one big town/housing estate.

I for one am glad I wont be alive to see it for it would break my heart.

This post got me thinking, and when I found this fact about Sweden I was very happy to live where I live.

"In theory, each Swede has an average of no less than 50,000 square meters of land at his/her "disposal."

Then I'll take Gary's spare 25,000 and your 50,000 and have myself 250,000 sq m!

Comparing the numbers for the UK and Sweden really does show us how crammed in we are over here.

The sad thing is that until someone works out a way of making "wild" land profitable, the amount of it is going to keep shrinking. So enjoy it wile you can and get the younguns to do the same.

At the most basic level we all need to consume less.... think about it.
