absolutely nothing at all to do with bushcraft in any way shape or form, but i seem to be noticing lots of people referring to terry pratchett and the discworld, don't really have a point to make to be honest, it just struck me as odd that so many people who are into bushcraft seem to be into pratchett too and i felt that i needed to pass comment. the fact that it's gone 4 in the morning and i've had a few jamesons after work could have something to do with this!! anyway, just curious really, how many of us on here are discworld fans, i know this has been mentioned in other threads already but i was just hoping you could all satisfy my random, meaningless curiosity!!

I have read a lot of Prattchet, I have also read a lot of other fantasy which is great stuff. I've over a 1000 books. It is different, funny, creative, dry, ambitious, creates empathy in the reader etc etc......they have dragged on a bit for me though and I have not read one for a few years!
Pretty much in the same boat as Tony, got several bookcases full of Fantasy (with some Sci Fi). PTerry is very good in fact I think Death is one of the best characters anyones every used. Seem to remember Good Omens being quiet good too.

I too read the Discworld series, I love Guards, Guards and men at arms. I still can't get get over Carrot. So naive and yet sooooooooooooo dangerous.
Off to buy the latest 1.

i listen to the tapes in the car. read the truckers and the followons from that also johhny and the dead (that was one of his wasn't it).

Isn't that the one he wrote half of when he was a teenager then the other half when he was a lot older?No, that's "The Carpet People" which was first published in'71 and he rewrote it for the later edition.
All the "Johnny" books are great fun as well! Truckers, Diggers etc (the Bromeliad Trilogy) are also set in the fictional town of Blackbury.
His more recent discworld books aimed at kids are brill as well - Maurice and his Amazing Rodents and Wee Free Men ('ya boggle!') are both excellent.

thanks to everyone who's replied to my post, sorry i've not had as much input into a thread that i started as i feel that i should have, but i've been kinda busy these last few weeks. anyway, thanks again for responding, you've all comfirmed my theory that all pratchett fans are bushcrafters at heart!! happy reading everyone, and if ever any of you get lost in ankh morpork, just yell, i have a map!!
