Afternoon all,

Recently I've been getting more into carving wood - until now I've hand-carved knife handles, I'm hungry now though.

I'm interested in relief carving (I understand this is the one you create pictures on flat wood) - flat plaques at first, hopefully I can work up to a decorative knife handle.

I'm not sure on these gouges - Marples I've learned are the ones you want, hunting down vintage sets seems to be a hobby in itself, but there's plenty of brands out there cheaper.

Can anyone suggest a good set of gouges and chisels? I'd like a basic set that'll let me learn, I'm sure I can upgrade them in time.

I've been looking at Dremel 3000s, but think they might be wrong for the job so opting for the hand-tool approach, it fits me better anyway.

Thanks all, any help is well appreciated
