Hi all,

In the front garden of the flats where I live there's a rather healthy looking pear tree. The fruits look like they're coming up to full size and have seen one or two dropping in the last few weeks.

I was just wondering if anyone knew when Pears were generally ready for picking?

Also, are there varieties of Pear that are inedible (a la 'crab apples' or 'cooking apples') ?

Haha I plan to mate, only problem is that all the fruit are really high up.
Just deciding whether to borrow a ladder from somewhere or lean out of my living room window.....
