Is it possible that he thinned the axe too far back ? Was it sharpened with a strong enough convex ? Too many variables to be conclusive other than it's not sharp out of the box .

Just as much work to fix a cheap "screwed" axe as a better axe from a bad sharpening , lotsa metal on an axe to be able to fix a bad sharpening with no ill effect .

I'm not messy but the wife complains about my mess all the time . I found that water does evaporate and oil stays around a lot longer LOL

I use water or a mix of water and a Simple Green non toxic cleaner on all my oil stones . I boiled my used oil stones in a pot of water to get the oil out , after a couple of water changes not scum appeared and they have worked fine for me YMMV

It was not a warranty claim so I've since bought the hogging blade , haven't broken it or the first one I've bought LOL

Sure is a pretty sticker :) You are correct about them not being sharp and I would not get over zealous with the non hogging blade like I did ....

All new saw come with owners manuals , read it , plenty of good info , lawyers made sure that all the bases are covered in all chapters so the manufacturer is not liable for not giving all instructions for use . Some of the manufacturers have some pretty good videos as well . I've got at least...
