Arya exploring her new neighborhood. Norway.

Totally agree. Every morning (6:40am) I get into work and have crank open the windows as much as I can, and then the others come in and close them. It's still t-shirt weather!

Arya exploring her new neighborhood. Norway.

Lovely photos, Arya! My family are from Sandefjord, to the east of you. I try and visit when I can and was going this spring but, unfortunately, can't make it. Luckly the RyanAir flights that are supposed to go to "Oslo" actually land in my family's town :)

    Rope storage and carry

Nowadays I normally just flake my climbing rope into a rope bag but occasionally I'll do a backpack coil. It's pretty simple when you get the hang of it and perfect for long ropes. Here's a how-to video. Like the lady in the video I start at the centre of the rope tol remove kinks, although most...

Making Beef Jerky In an Oven

There's no chance of getting bison in the shops down here, but you're right as having no fat in the meat is very important as fat doesn't dry easily and if it's not dry it'll spoil quicker. I'm assuming deer would work well for the same reason. I had to look up a jerky gun and it looks just...

Making Beef Jerky In an Oven

Your dehydrator sounds similar to mine (thermostat, timer). Mushrooms are dead easy to dry. Just slice them thin and dry at 35C for at least 6 hours. I normally gather and dry porcini. Here's the recipe I used for the jerky: * 600g beef rump steak * 1/2 cup Soy sauce * 1/2 cup Teriyaki sauce *...

    Lightweight food from supermarkets.

I tend to bring homemade food myself - beans, bacon, sausages precooked and mixed together then reheated is nice; chilli, curry etc. I'd go with noodles, packet soup and whatever else you can fit in your pot. Try bringing a herb/spice mix to liven your food up. I make large batches of this at...

Making Beef Jerky In an Oven

I've used a dehydrator to make jerky. I bought it for drying mushrooms and it's an excellent piece of kit. Only about £30 on amazon.

    Crayfish locations!?

I've never had any luck in Cornwall. I guess we're not exactly overflowing with rivers. Then again we have the sea!

    Another Cornishman

Trust me, once the summer comes the place will be full! I'm taking a few days off after the easter break to camp out on a beach with my 15 year-old daughter. Hopefully it'll be quiet... ish

    Another Cornishman

Hi everyone I'm Andrew and have been doing outdoors stuff all my life; from climbing to camping (apparently they call it wild-camping nowadays), free diving and hunting. I wanted to get back into a little camping and bushcrafting again and after reading so many of the forum threads I thought...
