Sharpening and stropping - a DIY field kit.

Hi Phil, great kit you have there too. I have been using mine now for a couple of weeks and am happy with the way it proofs itself to be liable and easy-carry, though it's a bit bigger than a BIC :)

Sharpening and stropping - a DIY field kit.

A while ago I've made a sharpening and stropping kit. Designed to be light weight, all-in-one and durable. The set is not meant for re profiling edges, just for daily edge maintenance during camp trips or in the kitchen. So I've glued a piece of leather on a 2 x 4 x 20cm rectangular aluminum...

    Christmas holiday outdoors

@crosslandkelly. Thanks :) And indeed, clever idea that cordage cutter. Great way to 'recycle' old bottles into something useful other than containing liquids. Though I have to admit I haven't secured anything with it yet. So a field test is still on the list....

    Christmas holiday outdoors

Hi there, between Christmas and new year me and my family have visited the Hoge Veluwe (National Parks De Hoge Veluwe and Veluwezoom) in the Netherlands. During our stay i had some time to finish two assignments of the one-knife-challenge organised at the Dutch Bushcraft forum, do some DO...

    Opinel No10 modifications

Thanks. N°8 is the most sold size I reckon. But relatively small for my hands. For food prep I prefer a bit longer blade, so the N°10 is just my size. That is what I love so much about Opinel, there is a size for every hand and every purpose. Timeless.

    Opinel No10 modifications

Hi there. Previous week I have been modding two Opinel No10 knives. You know, them flimsy veggie slicers made since 1890 by the French in Savoie. Just love them for the lighter cutting activities both in and outdoors. Cheap, forgiveable and easy to give a personal touch, as you know or can...

New "Scandi folder" from Cold Steel

Nice... Thanks :) I'll go check out this folder then upcoming weekend visiting Cologne for work. Will post my experience next week if I successfully manage to grab a hold on it. Now, fingers crossed it not a hollow grind scandi... Rgds, Bas

    Weekend of with the kids

Hi John, I believe this legal 'wild' camp sites initiative in Belgium is something from the last 10j. In the Netherlands we name this phenomenon 'paalkamperen', in which "Paal" refers to an erect beam (post) in the middle of the forest away from the path, marking the center of a 20m perimeter...

    Weekend of with the kids

Last weekend we had the chance to move out with the kids for a night. Weather was just excellent, autumn at its best. Our overnighter was planned at a 'legal wild camp spot'. Unfortunately my leg was not good enough due to a sport accident (yes, I now ;)) so we had to change plans and made camp...

New "Scandi folder" from Cold Steel

Does anyone know if the Finn Wolf is a full scandi or if it's a scandi grind that comes with a secondary bevel? Like those cheap Marttiini's do. I am asking this as I am looking for a full scandi folder. The Helle Skala and Enzo Birk and Borko folders, which answer to my wishes (duh...), are...

Stabilising wood...what products are you using from in the UK?

@MrCharly. Great idea. Worth the experiment despite its brittle consistence when dried... Another DIY solution could be to dissolve one part of white wood (colourless after it has dried) glue into 2 parts of water. Apparently you end up with a running liquid. Something I'll put into practice...

Stabilising wood...what products are you using from in the UK?

Cactus Juice indeed seems to way go, despite I believe it is quite costly. YT is full of it when searching on wood stabilization. It would be great being able to make a wood stabilizer alias 'Breaking Bad', by shopping in the woods or at a local supermarket :) Pine resin over time turns into...

    DIY Hex Tarp

Wow, nicely done. Great job. And a construction with one single seam is just brilliant. Put a brand on it and I am pretty sure you're in business ;)

    DIY ridge-line organiser.

Hi there! Quick post on sharing a project which I finished yesterday evening. I have a 2 compartment back pack (>10y old Tatonka) which I use for up to max 3 day trips. I'ld like to refer to the small compartment in the hood of the pack with the term 'grab bag'. To get this more organised, for...

    DIY Birch burl toggle button.

My wife is crocheting a bag for our 5y old. Looking for a button I thought of contributing to her project by making one myself. Had a small piece of birch burl fling around the house for a while, left over from a vacuum pump experiment on stabilising wood, not exactly knowing what to do with it...
