I run a Scout troop and want to get the Scouts into practising with a firesteel, I can see that light my fire do a "Scout" fire steel but they are quite a bit more expensive than the popular auction site equivalent from parts of Asia.....

What kit do you use to get nice looking bevels and clean cut ricasso's...
Is your stuff made out of O1 GFS and how do you heat treat...
Here's my attempt at something looking a bit like a woodlore....
Please bear in mind it's my first attempt.... I'm happyish with it... plenty of room for improvement.....
Ricasso is quite poor but hopefully will get better with practice...

I think I bought 8 sticks for about £3 including postage from eBay so quite happy with that price, maybe vasoline and cotton wool would be about £1 to £1.50 ish but not that much more expensive...

I know... what person in their right mind would buy that dust stuff, having the wood and resin combined into a stick makes for a much better burning fuel...

A good wood I've found out about recently but seems everyone else knows about is Maya Sticks or Fat Wood....
Resin filled Pine wood from chopped down pine trees... not sure how hot it burns but easy to light because of all the resin in it...

Seems to work so well and with little effort, also tried the bit of hack saw blade again with a little more pressure and that works...
