    Ideas for daypack hot meal?

I have one of these. For a dayhike, you can pretty much bring any hot food with you and it'll still be roatsing after a few hours. Curry on the hills is a favourite of mine.

Hot assets......(no, its not like those spam emails)

I'll second southey's advice about wicking running shorts with the sewn-in netting - I often just wear them when hiking in the summer. In the winter, wicking jocks of whatever meterial you find comfiest will do. That said, I've known lads who had medical problems with overheating down there...

looking for a USB lead that can power this..........

:) Sorry for being pedantic about that. I spent a good six months working on USB controllers a few years back. That spec is embedded in my brain.

looking for a USB lead that can power this..........

That's a negotiated current on a 2.0/3.0 data port, though. The specification for Dedicated Charging Ports specifically limits current to 1.5A, so to say that USB socket that's up to spec will be able to put out 2A is just wrong.

looking for a USB lead that can power this..........

That's not in the spec at all. Since 2.0, devices can negotiate up to 5A, but dedicated charge ports shouldn't put out more than 1.5A.

looking for a USB lead that can power this..........

Unfortunately you won't be able to charge that battery pack from a USB port because the input voltage is 9-15V and USB's max voltage is 5V. Even if you get a cable that fits, it won't charge the battery effectively (depending on the internals) and probably won't charge it at all. You probably...

    Sausages in lard

Not great compared to other EU countries, to be honest. The limits on what can be called meat are EU-wide rules, but other countries have stricter labeling definitions. Outside the EU, all bets are off. As you say, though, for 39p, you know it's not going to be the butcher's finest.

    Sausages in lard

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but the UK is pretty awful when it comes to what can go into sausages. In the UK, Pork Sausages only need to be 42% meat, and the EU Directive 2001/101/EC says that pork sold can only be up to 30% fat and 25% connective tissue. That means that something...

    Tarp / Speed bag Vid

Having the tarp and hammock in the one sock is an interesting idea, but what happens if you're tarp is wet when you're taking it down. Surely being stuffed into a sock and then drybag with a wet tarp would mean a wet hammock the next night?

    Advice/Comments about Webtex Bergans

I'd skip any Webtex gear. I've plenty of their bergens fall apart under load, and their webbing was pants too. Buy Webtex, buy twice.

I saw that on your pimped Crusader. It looks great.

    patches

Also, unless you are a military medic, or involved in the provision of medical services to military personnel, or are in the employ of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, then you should not wear or use the Red Cross symbol on any clothing or equipment. It's an internationally protected...

    Expedition Hardware, negative experience

Call Barclays and tell them the situation. Most credit cards come with purchase protection. I done a few chargebacks through my bank for stuff I've bought with my Mastercard and never arrived, or wasn't up to scratch. You give the company the chance to rectify the problem, and after that, cancel...

    Expedition Hardware, negative experience

Hey, hemdale, how did you pay them? Could you get onto your credit card company and get a chargeback?

    Waterproof gloves

There's so many positive reviews of Sealskinz gloves around that I do sometimes wonder if I got a dud pair. I have the Hunting gloves, and they didn't stay dry for an hour in heavy rain the first time I used them. I probably should have returned them, just in case.

    Waterproof gloves

Yeah, I have a pair Sealskinz gloves, and just like you say, once wet, they hold no heat at all. I also wasn't too impressed with the waterproofing. It failed in heavy rain the first time I took them hiking. I do like the socks though. I wear them in the kayak when I know I'll be in and out a...

    Gelert Solo One Man Tent

Wow, that's some pic. Did you pitch on the snow or dig out your footprint? What kind of pad/kipmat did you use. Great pic.

    Gelert Solo One Man Tent

I had one, and it's, to be honest, not great. I'm 180cm tall and both my feet and my head touch the inner fly when lying flat, which isn't really a flaw, but worth noting. The build quality is good enough, although you are relying on the staking to keep the fly taut. That's not so unusual, but...

    thermoelectric generators

Urban, they're the same thing. If you create a difference in temperature on either side of a Peltier plate, you'll generate a DC current.

thinking about getting a gas stove.

I use an MSR pocket rocket with 80/20 isobutane/propane mix cartridges and I had problems in January in weather about -15 Celcius with little or no wind. The flame would flare instead of burn for a few seconds and then go out. I'm still a big fan of the pocket rocket and gas, but for serious...
