How to restore and old hand-axe?

Lots of different possible histories, i like it! I was told by the seller that it was an old boy-scout axe, which seemed plausible to me. On the head it says "D.G.M', which is supposedly it's manufacturers name. On the back it says germany. The wooden panels are about done. The problem right now...

How to restore and old hand-axe?

Thanks, i liked it too! Got it all the way from Canada :p Anyway i'm thinking about not touching the metal, since it'll only get thinner. I'm not sure wether it's stainless, or just plain steel. Either way, if it's plain steel the corrosion should provide reasonable protection against further...

How to restore and old hand-axe?

Hello fellow-bushcrafters, hand-axe again I must ask for your advice. On ebay I bought an old (1930-1950) small german hand-axe, which looked very practical to me. As you can see it has an axe head (obviously) as well as a hammerhead in the back, and a screwdriver/crowbar on the other...

    Nettles

Ehm, as far as I know the stems don't sting. I used to fool other boyscouts into thinking I was immune for nettles by just picking them up by them stem. It's the leaves and leave-stems (if that's even a word) that sting and I believe only the underside, but i'm not quite sure about that.

    rogue boots.

Cool, which one did you get? I got myself a pair of trans-africa boots. So far they're coming along nicely. The smooth leather needs a lot more breaking in compared to "normal" hiking boots (hanwag, meindl, etc.), but I absolutely love the flexible sole. How durable is your pair? do you think...

    comfortable waterproof trousers?

Hmmm, those swazi dribacks look pretty good. It shouldn't be too hard actually. It needs to be 100% waterproof & tough as nails on the behind. A little less waterproof for the rest of the trousers and more breathing. And it needs to be extremely tough on the shins for that nasty undergrowth.

    comfortable waterproof trousers?

Thanks for all the good ideas. Right now i'm leaning towards adding waterproof patches on a pair of iceland trousers.

    comfortable waterproof trousers?

Hello all, I've been bushcrafting/hiking for a while now and i've -allmost- (right!) got my kit complete. The only thing i'm really missing is a good pair of trousers. There's basically three things it has to do: 1. Be very very hard-wearing. (like fjallraven g1000?) 2. Be waterproof...

    Fjallraven Trousers

From all the trousers of fjallraven i'd say the "vidda trousers" are the very best. The fabric won't wither away. With extra strength on the knees and behind. I know people that use this model as a working-trouser because it's stronger! Working as in hauling stones and stuff ofcourse. kind...

    Where's the calories?

Thanks for the tips so far. I'll probably take a little food for the bare necessities. It's not gonna be terribly cold, about +4/-4 degrees celcius. I agree that counting calories is probably overrated. Different people have different metabolism and need different amounts of food. I don't need...

    Where's the calories?

Hello all, I'm planning a 4-day trip through the woods with minimal packing. Which means no backpack. I've taken weight reduction to a new extreme for me. The total weight of -stuff- i'm taking is about 1kg (excluding clothes). I'm not even gonna carry a pack, i've had it with that. It's all...

    Bcnl ???

Correct, it's illegal to camp in the wild there and it's certainly illegal to make a fire. But I usually go on my own, in which case I can keep out of sight of any rangers. It's a matter of ethics. I've never left anything behind, no trace whatsoever. In this particular case I have no problem...

    Bcnl ???

Hi Chris, My name is Eelco and I'm also doing some bushcraft/hiking/camping. It's indeed very difficult to do some real bushcraft in the netherlands, so I generally go to the Ardennes or even further towards germany or france. A dutch bushcraft site is indeed a good idea! with kind...

First night in the woods alone?

Well, my first nights outside alone where on a 4 day trip through germany in the winter in my bivvy. The first night i remember continually thinking about axe-murderers and all sorts of monsters coming my way, i've sat up straight peering into the night numurous times. But that was nothing...
