    Net making

Beware netted keepnets! As far as I'm aware, conventional netting isn't considered humane for fish that are to be returned - the knots tear up their scales and such.

    Hammocks

Has anyone slept in both a fabric and a net hammock? I'm sure net ones are more comfy, but I couldn't swear to it - the only type I've slept in was netting.

    Anyone spin/knit?

Cheers guys! No doubt I'll have questions from Becky to pass on soon enough. Thanks for the info so far. :D :D

Ooh yeah, looks like good grub. I reckon that good veggie food is the best test of a good restaurant - making nice steak isn't too hard, but making a nice veggie pie demands real cooking skill.

    Which Leatherman?

Try tying the leatherman to your trousers. That's what I did with my SAK, and I never lost it. I had a knife and keys tied to one side, a phone tied to the other and a lighter on a string 'round my neck. :D

    What's your claim to fame.......

Wow, I suck compared to all you guys! ;) My dad once had dinner with Bill Nighy... One of my ancestors lived in a place called "Mudhall"... Ian Hislop (and Terry Thomas!) went to my school... I'm going to have to get out and about, aren't I? :D :)

    Which Leatherman?

Yeah, loads! If you don't plan on keeping it longer than a few weeks, the cheap knock-offs are just as good as the real thing. :)

Nice pub lunch you say? :D Now there's a good idea. I imagine we'll turn up at about ten-ish, have a nice potter 'round the woods, then head for the pub about noon for a lunch and some sharp things :) I take it the Fat Cat serves good food? Maybe even real cider?

    Sheffield

Depends what kinds of things there are, really... If there's a decent sized secluded wood then it doesn't need to be very big, because we can entertain ourselves pottering about looking at birds and things. If not, then a good couple of hours walk with some hills. Basically we're planning on...

Nice one guys! :D I'll present those options to SWMBO tonight - I'm sure one of them will get the green light. Shiny things here I come! :) :)

    Sheffield

Hi there chaps. I'm going up to Sheffield tomorrow for the BB meet, and her indoors has promised to drive me there if I can find us somewhere nice to go for a walk beforehand. I see that Sheffield is right next door to the peak district, so hopefuly someone will have some local knowledge and...

Secrets of the hand drill - revealed

Bah! ***** the blisters, push them flat then carry on! The flap of skin re-attaches to the flesh underneath. :D

    Anyone spin/knit?

Ooooh that looks useful. Seems like a real-world group is the best bet - I'll point her to that website. Cheers!

    We're not afraid.

That's bloody marvellous. When you compare the reaction of most Britons to the kind of stuff we saw after the WTC, it brings a tear to the eye *sniff* *sniff* :) Even the Sun was clever enough to say that hostility between muslims and christians is exactly what bin Laden wants, and I haven't...

    A what wood helpful guide!

Woo hoo! Thanks to venger's wonderful wood site, I now know what my mystery wood is: <drum roll> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbeam :D :D Apparently it's rarely used due to its extreme hardness.  They make things like meat tenderizers and piano action hammers out...

    A what wood helpful guide!

Oooooh :D :D That's a very cool site! :) Now I just need a circular saw and power planer! ;)

    Anyone spin/knit?

I've been assigned a new task today: I'm making her indoors a spindle, so she can spin wool. :D It occured to me that she might like to browse around some forums - she always tut-tuts at me for my addiction to bcuk and BB :o  soooo... I'm wondering whether anyone spins or knits...

    Hammocks

Yeah, no problem. Making a hammock is no more difficult than making a simple net, so netting is a really useful skill to learn. :)
