Custom Knife makers, are there any left?

Well the thing is I make custom knives, they are custom because they are made by hand and each one is different, even if I make a batch of the same type of knives there will be subtle differences, now I make batches of knives because I can’t afford to sit around on my bottom waiting for someone to...

    Puukko in 52100 just finished

You could try g10 instead of micarta, not natural but will give a more consistent finish, you have to watch bone, I used up a whole bran new 2x72 belt on an antler handle, and boy does it smell something awful,

    Spooks...

I like khukuri’s, extremely underrated tools in my opinion, except by the Nepalese of course! Still searching for the perfect model, have a Himilayan Imports model, very robust, almost a12 mm thick at the spine, but also very heavy. Tried, then modified a condor version, then got rid of...

    Reducing Knife Blade Length

Nah, no 2x72, those short fat belts heat up too fast, need long thin belts so that they stay as cool as possible.

    Reducing Knife Blade Length

Wow, you are lucky then, I could not find one at all in my country, as in no one sells them or imports them, in the end I had to build one totally by hand, the belts I can get made up as custom orders, but even then they kept asking if I was sure I wanted 2 x 72...oh and I had to buy a minimum...

    Reducing Knife Blade Length

A very light touch with an angle grinder and some judicious work with a file will also do the job, by sander I think people are referring to a 2 x 72 sander, which are fairly rare.

    Fairbairn Sykes recommendations

There is a guy here in New Zealand who makes modern, Woking examples of them, sharp, tough, but look like the originals and you can get various different sheaths too. Peter Parkinson does the(hand) polishing and Brent Sandow does the grinding Nzknives.co.nz, I have a couple of Sandow other style...

    another puukko just finished

Ah, that’s a pity, I was interested to see how they performed, I have a Nepalese khukuri, which is very pretty but super thick and heavy, I really like the capability of them, but was thinking of getting a lighter, thinner one.

    another puukko just finished

Can I ask what became of those khukuri Knives you made?

    Garberg?

If you blue the carbon, and use desert ironwood then you will have something much more beautiful and almost as durable.

    field sharpener for a scandi

Quite neat, on the side opposite the strop you could cut a recess (dado?) and epoxy a ceramic rod in there so it’s 3/4 exposed as well.

    Katana Boy 1000

Wow, I was debating between the 500 and the 650, now more thought is needed...

Best way to clean light rust on a knife blade.....

    Flitz works a treat.

    Silky Nata

It’s a bit less tactical/offensive looking than a golok but looks like it would fall into the same sort of category? Couple of shots online where people have taken off the plastic handles scales and replaced with micarta ones. I rate silky saws.

    Tanto knife for bushcraft

I really don't think a tanto is the answer you are looking for...unless you intend to use the knife for sticking people that is, for your trip I would get a leatherman, then you have a pair of pliers, a saw a file and a knife for basic food prep, all in stainless, that will take care most of...
