I think your worst possible outcome is a £266 bill, a bit more if the $1500 doesn't include p&p. Pound is at its strongest against the dollar for about 4 years :)
The UK import fees will be 20% VAT plus duty of about 5-8%, plus processing fee of around £10 for brokering your parcel through customs. The VAT is on top of everything.
I don't know if you need one but the CO alarm I bought last week didn't need to be installed at height, the manual said you could just leave it on a shelf at sleeping height

Mm yea I would say about 30% of the stuff I buy is from China so I'm in no way anti-Chinese stuff but I think that a fair judgement of the stove would be it's about low-medium quality. If you're not happy with an item which burns pressurised petrol being low-medium quality I would maybe leave it.
I've read that the dyneema fibres in the core suffer from being crushed in the Garda hitch and it causes the cord to lose its strength. Also it seems that the pressure of the hitch just causes thin cord to degrade in general.

Interesting, can't see any benefits over a hammock/tarp setup though other than saving a bit of money, looks like you have to pitch it taut so you wouldn't get much of the comfort of sleeping in a hammock, also you'd need to find suitable sticks for the spreader bars and the tarp coverage looks...
