    lightweight leuku style knife

I'm pretty sure that benders were originally used by travellers, popularised by the women at Greenham Common in the '80s. Just occurs to me to wonder how many people actually remember the whole Greenham Common thing.

Any ideas? After a tough rucksack in a bright colour

When I'm out and about I always wear shades of olive. This is because I like to be unobtrusive, both in terms of other people but more importantly for wildlife I am trying to photograph. I actually think olives are as good for being unobtrusiveas as DPM (which I loathe for the reasons you give)...

    What was your first tent?

I had forgotten this but when I had my Bukta Linnet, my cousin had a Blacks Good Companion small bell tent. That was a great tent provided you could sleep in a curve. Didn't have a fly sheet though as I recall.

    What was your first tent?

Back in the 60s a Bukta Linnet. Yellow cotton inner and an egyptian cotton fly sheet that would set taught as a drum. never let water in. Eventually replace with a nylon one which took me agesto get used to because you couldn't set the fly sheet really taught and it rattled in the wind. The...

    bentham yorkshire

I live on Morecambe prom and work my way up and down the dale every day. This area sort of benefits from the Lakes being close. Everyone goes there and sort of forgets about us, but in this country there are always people around. They do tend to stick to the honeypots though so if you're...

    bentham yorkshire

Get hold of the OS map OL41 High and Low Bentham are the extreme North boundary of this map and the map covers most of the Forest of Bowland. Go west from Bentham and you will pass through Wray, Wennington, or Hornby and Lunesdale. The River Lune runs from Lancaster up past here to Kirkby...

I know this area quite well. Whereabouts exactly are you if you're not actually in Bentham. When have you booked the cottage for?

National Parks Bill £50m pa Opera House Bill £50m pa

That has to be one of the most interesting statistics I've heard lately, Interestingly visitors to the peak district spend less per head than nearly anyother National park. I couldn't figure that out until I realized that most visitorswill probably go for the day and take sandwiches because...

    Which Land Rover?

Thanks guys, this is all really useful and helpful stuff. I'm still no nearer a decision but then I don't have to make a decision yet. Keep it coming. I'm reluctant to use a defender as my sole vehicle.

    Which Land Rover?

My plans are not that well formulated yet. At the moment the plan is to buy an area of woodland and manage it as a 'nature reserve' for photography, bushcraft and perhaps school visits. I would want a vehicle that would help me with all that some greenlaning general stuff up here, especially...

    Which Land Rover?

That should have read 40% off road

    Which Land Rover?

I just love the defender but the Disco looks like it might be a better option. It will probably work out about 60% road work and 30% off road or hauling. Is there much difference between the two in terms of off-road capability and what are people's experiences of the oft repeated reliability...

    Which Land Rover?

I know this may have been done to death but... ...later this year I am planning on buying an off road vehicle. Despite all the negative stuff out there I'm still hankering after a Land Rover. Either a Defender or a Disco new or used. I would be interested to hear anyone's comments on...

    Which watch ?

There is only one watch to own http://www.breitling.com/en/index.php#/models/navitimer/navitimer/ If you have to ask the price, then you can;t afford it. Actually the navtimer is cheap in the range, a mere snip at £4,000. The others are MUCH more expensive. Still if you want the best...

Confessions of a bushcrafter with many other interests

Bird watching, Photography, kite flying, Juggling although I used to be a semi-pro performer so haven't really kept that up much since I stopped performing. Reading, archery, lots of playing jazz sax. reading photography, jazz sax and bushcraft forums (too bloody much really) and now I'm...
