To ventile or not to ventile - advice needed

Well, thanks alot! :-> Last time I checked their website I was unable to find the Ventile smock. Maybe it was just out of stock or I overlooked it. As I've always wanted to give Ventile a try I just had to order one this time. There goes my money! Delivery was swift - ordered on Friday...

    Laksen Moose Jacket

I found it to be quite ok. But this was on my legs only and in cold/wet conditions. The trousers have an inner lining that feels a little bit silky against the skin and tends to act a bit cooling, so it did not feel too bad. I can't really compare it to Goretex, as I've only owned Goretex...

    Laksen Moose Jacket

Hi, no experience with the jacket. But I have a pair of Laksen Stirling trousers which are quite good. The outer shell material is very silent and rustle free, which would make these good for hunting I guess. Mine don't have Goretex but a membrane called CTX. I planned on getting a jacket from...

    Windproof/Showerproof Smock

This would be in your price range if you don't mind the DPM: http://www.militaerbestaende.de/Clothing-Accessoires/Clothing-mens/Fieldjackets-Parkas/Brit-Fieldjacket-new::1135.html A colleague of mine has this jacket; it's gaberdine and he swears it's the best jacket he ever owned. His came...

    Another 5.11 trouser question

I have a pair of TDUs, and I found that the velcro on the cargo pockets rips open too easily, especially when the pockets are loaded. Also, the rubber waistband makes for a very close fit. I'm 1.85cm/75kg and I find my size M TDU almost too tight (I've used regular size M BDU trousers in the past).

Any body used any Helikon gear/clothing..

I've used some Helikon products. SFU shirts, BDU trousers, a Patriot fleece jacket and recently a field parka. I'd say it is quite decent stuff for the price you pay for. Drawcord broke on my fleece jacket after two years, and I had to re-do part of a seam on the parkas cuff velcro which had...

    Oberland Gear Smock?

The Oberland smock looks a bit over-engineered to me, I must say, unless you really need the MOLLE loops on the back. They do look very ally though. I bought a Helikon Field Parka recently which seems to be a decent (for Chinese import stuff) implementation of the British 2005 smock. Available...

    Mystolene Mk9

Thanks for the link to the Nikwax ingredients. It really seems they are basically the same and there's no secret ingredient in Mystolene. Probably all boils down to correct washing process/heat application.

    Mystolene Mk9

Hi! A friend of mine owns a British combat smock. It says on the label inside the smock: "Reproof with [...] Mystolene Mk9". My friend swears that the waterproofing on the - then new - smock was excellent. It seems that Mystolene Mk9 is a wax emulsion. Does anybody know what's the...

    Layering advice please...

After experimenting with a lot of stuff in the past I've come to use a mixture of synthethics and merino wool as a base layer in colder conditions. Over this, I usually only wear a windproof smock. I use this combination in temperatures as low as 0C to -5C. Below that, I add an additional layer...

    Swedish Snow Smock

Putting it in the tumble dryer certainly should help. From my experience these wash-in waterproofing stuff like Nikwax performs better after heat application. You might also try to steam iron it. Another possibility would be Erdal Aqua Stop. I don't know if it's available in the UK, but if...

Anybody knows what's up with sasskit?

Just been reading the latest posts on this topic after being away for a few days. It looks like the discussion initiated a change, as the sasskit webpage now says "The site is under reconstruction." Shame... but probably understandable given the restrictions on the MTP pattern and the fact that...

Anybody knows what's up with sasskit?

Thanks alot for actually calling them! That's very nice of you! Still it's a pity that they won't resupply anytime soon. It seems there are few to none other suppliers of single colored (non camo) smocks out there - at least in this layout and pocket configuration. Again, thanks alot for...

Anybody knows what's up with sasskit?

Hi, I've been wondering lately whether sasskit are still in business? I bought a DPM smock from them about two years ago. That's when they last updated their homepage it seems. I'm interested in buying one of their OD or tan smocks ... sent them an email a while ago, never got a reply. Both...

    Greetings from Austria

Hi! My name is Ferdinand and I live in Austria. I earn my living as a sysadmin in IT. But I devote much of my spare time to outdoor activities (hiking (with dog), backpacking and geocaching among others). I've been a casual lurker on this forum for quite some time. Often stumbled across it...
