Hi all, this one is for all you woodworkers out there. I've been trying to source a copy of Sundqvist's Spoon Carving book for quite some time. My library doesn't have it and haven't had it come up for a while. Although I appreciate the rare(ish) nature of the book, I'm not prepared to spend a huge amount of money on it.

So, I was wondering if anyone had a copy they would be kind enough to lend me to digest and learn from for a couple of weeks before I return it safely to you? Or, failing that I know it's still available in German. I don't speak German, but I suppose I could look at ze pictures. Question is, will I lose out on important written information that would help me greatly?

Thanks in advance, you loverly lot.

I am afraid I wouldn't lend my copies out but the German version is good and has some good images that aren't in the English. The text was inspirational for me when I got it in 1991 but not essential for instruction, it's all his philosophy about the beauty of using well made handmade objects in daily life that I found inspiring. All UK libraries will let you do an inter library loan, you just fill out a form (or it's probably all online these days) and they get any book in for you. It may take a couple of weeks and may cost a couple of ponds but you would get it.

Thanks Robin, I put in for a inter library loan maybe 4 months ago. Nothing so far. It's a VERY small library in my town so maybe they have forgotten about me. I'll try and get down there on the weekend and put another request in.

At a push I suppose I could get the german version and google a translation

I am teaching a course in Edale village hall Wed-Friday s337za . If you wanted to pop in you would be welcome to read through as much of it as you can (bring digital camera if you wanted) I'll have loads more treen and carving books there too, a veritable woodies library. eg Levi, Treen for the Table, Pinto, Treen and other wooden bygones etc.

Oh that would be great! I'm afraid I won't be able to make that, though. Are all your courses in Edale? I've never actually looked at where it is, you're not really that far by train. I think one of your courses is exactly what I need.

OK, slightly off-topic perhaps but I'm just wondering if anyone has used the British Library Catalogue. Either I'm doing it wrong or it's just not available in the collection. I find this hard to believe. I'm searching the integrated catalogue here: http://catalogue.bl.uk

Anyone searched for this book before?

I guess it is possible that there isn't a copy in the UK library system. It was published by Taunton in the US and only a few folks brought it over, Jon Warnes of woodland craft supplies mostly. The BL hold copies of ever book published in the UK. I have ordered specialist archaeology books internationally before but it's probably not worth that hassle. If you wait 6 months I think you'll see several new titles which bring the subject up to date and won't break the bank. Both Jogge and I have books with the publishers.

I've just read a post on Bodgers that say's it isn't actually in the the Library system. How strange is that? However, I've got my pal in Stockholm looking out for a swedish version (he's on hand all the time for translating purposes)

When IS your book out Robin as I will be very keen to own a copy :D
