I do not care about which social grouping did what, but I do think it is wrong to put a label on those attention seekers.

I suspect they came from all walks of life.
Hallam was a failed farmer?
Bradbrook from a mining family or similar?

I doubt many of the activists/anarchists are holding down a job.
So maybe live off father and mother? Or off wellfare benefits?
Does it matter? Bushcraft skills - apparently not much!

Apparently one of the glue his hands to a train types was a pensioner who'd put into the system all his life.

Apparently there's academics, which in case you hadn't realised typically earn a decent salary.

Apparently there's educated and employed people involved.

Wow! How can they let those claim benefits as well? Oh wait! They probably don't get any benefits and are self funding through paid employment. In guess environmental protesting takes all sorts.

Still don't let stereotypes and ill- founded prejudices stop a good rant.

PS how many paramedics failed to get to work? How many failed to get to emergencies? Can anyone point me towards all those cases?

Another one of those great unwashed. Out to destroy our society while sponging off the state. They want locking up!

Seriously, who actually "wants" to be locked up? You do hear that phrase but I really can't imagine many wanting it. Any other similar phrases needing correction?

that is entirely your opinion. My one is that if someone is doing something that does not directly involve my daily or future wellbeing, then I leave it alone. If it does affect me, then I deal with it. I do not know any of these people protesting, so I can offer no opinions on there background, heritage or parentage. As what is becoming patently obvious with this type of post, it is instigated with politicized undertones, which out of respect for the forum I shall not engage in any further. If you wish further communication with me, in a sensible and convivial manner, then do so. Otherwise don't bother. :)

It’s not affecting you, but it’s affecting others who wanted to see their dying loved ones, emergency services vehicles trying to do their jobs and save lives, and not to mention the countless amount of people trying to get about their day and going to their jobs to pay their mortgages or rent and feed their families.

Of course it’s politicised the whole damn thing is!

And not to mention people talking to reporters, crying because they didn’t get to see their dying loved ones.

They are losing public support. They are scaremongering based of propaganda and biased science, they don’t hold up to scrutiny, they are hypocrites, and don’t live by their own standards, and they have unrealistic and fairytale demands and expectations.

Afaik there has been one story in the daily mail about a son trying to see his dying parent. No stories of paramedics not getting to work or reaching emergency call outs.

I'd be grateful if you can link to these cases in news outlets.

Sorry cross post. Thank you for the links.

Let's examine them shall we?

First link was a carefully crafted piece to avoid saying anything actionable against them in a court. The message was clearly heard by its target reader. ER protests stop emergency services getting through, people will die. Never actually said that. What it did say was could delay emergency services. Then quoted ER organisers saying they'd move to let emergency services through. So despite a lot if coulds there were no dids in there. Plenty of talking head quotes from angry voices. No idea of frequency of such voices. Could there have been more supportive? Biased vox pops are irrelevant. Evidence is important though.

Second link, guy on crutches gets angry? Really? You can't protest because some guy has crutches. Freedom of speech and protest is more important. There's loads of slightly more supportive bits to that piece of reporting. Police larking around with protesters, skateboarding coppers, etc. Seems the sun isn't as decided on good vs bad opinion like you are.

Third link about cancer patient. Well, my dad had a train cancelled on him when he had a cancer appointment once. Not good but he lived with it. He had a back up. Not ideal but sorted. Tue cancer patient made the appointment or the article would have mentioned missed appointment.

Sorry if that all sounds harsh. I don't support ER actions but I find the attempt by certain media outlets to demonize legitimate and probably needed protests worse. If there were signs of movement on climate change protest would not be needed.

One more point. For every example given there's probably hundreds just getting on with it. Whilst not dismissing their complaint outright it does seem that these cases are more political than real problems. The one example I know about that's really serious was the guy late to see his dad die. That is still the only serious case so I don't see a good reason to prevent protests based on this.

Ah yes the daily mail!!!!
Try reading the guardian.
How does one story.. that incidently happened several months ago at the first protest to one person, become a daily happening for hundreds of "people"?
Since then it has been a policy to allow all emergency response vehicles clear access and also if you talked to the protesters about your need to visit hospital for such a reason instead of bleating to newspapers about it I'm sure there would have been happy to help.
the biased disrepectful comments here for ordainary people who are worried for their or their kids or grandkids future and want to see progress are a disgrace.!
Which one of you is doing anymore than sit in your cosy armchair watching tv and insult others who have a the gumption to get up off their butt's and be active about it.
Notice it's a peaceful protest. The only people who are fighting are those who are doing nothing themselves, or who believe that putting all their plastic waste into a recycling bin is enough.
Note...... I have not used an insulting derogative name towards anyone in this post.
If one wants to be respected you don't get it by demanding it or insulting people.. works both ways funnily enough.

You perhaps missed my point and I apologize for not being more clear. Whether or not I am for or against what is going on, I, and others are sick of the moronic political nausea that is polluting otherwise good natured forums. Starting off a thread with, "Absolutely not taking any side now" and then slowly steering it into the gutter with comments about benefits scroungers, and families that live in council estates is typical of what is degenerating many previously well mannered forums around the net. It is always one, or perhaps two that start the ball rolling. Instead of rattling the keyboards, where none of the targeted audience are likely to be anyway, the authors of such nonsense should get out into the environment they seem to despise, and put forward their critique. The response will be totally different, and well they know this.

There’s plenty of other reporting on it, granted anecdotal, but the mainstream media fail to report on a lot of it because it doesn’t fit their agenda, the footage is out there from independent news outlets. Not just from the UK.

What do you think will happen when emergency services can’t do their jobs? People could well die from delay, or a lack of that resource being mobilised and utilised in the appropriate timeframe. And not just a direct result, but indirect too, one emergency service might not be able to go out to support another, or even respond to it’s own shouts.

And not just the direct result of them not doing their job, but the indirect result of violent crime in one area when the police are wasting their time with these idiots. Or when ambulances and other resources that could be far better utilised are being taken up to babysit?

The political savvy people at the top in the interviews may well say one thing, “move aside” for emergency service vehicles, but the people at the pointy end, or when mob mentality kicks in? And what they say and what actually happens are 2 different things.

So you are happy to put an OAP out, who’s spent his life working and taxes into the system, with a health injury out, and potentially cause more injury or add mental health stress to it? The freedom of expression and protest is vital, but NOT at the expense of other people’s health. And certainly not to risk the safety of themselves and others. Just because you see a man on crutches doesn’t mean theirs more underlying issues or complications from it.

Again those circumstances could be avoided, or mitigated. But that’s not an excuse to allow people to hamper people’s lives and cause injury or risk to others. You want to protest, you do so legally, properly, and as a properly organised event to not disrupt others. Democracy and freedom of expression doesn’t mean you can mess with other people’s lives.

Climate change is still a debated topic in science. There is a lot more to it, and a lot more money riding on it. And there’s a lot of science and factored these people mislead, and misreported and leave out. It should be taken with facts not feelings, and scarmongering and kicking off is NOT the answer.
Where’s the protests in China, India, Russia, Africa? Where’s the protests and the outrage at the biggest polluting countries in the world?

It’s still serious. People are fed up with them, fed up of being preached to by idiots that can’t abide by their own demands. Again, diesel generators for charging electronics, products from petrochemical processes, synthetic clothing, plastic tubs, synthetic tents, noise cancelling and Bluetooth headphones. Traveling by cars, protesting oil events, where the theme is decommissioning and ecological impact.

The public is sick of it, as the footage of people taking matters into their own hands by dragging people off trains, and grabbing banners.

One thing I noticed about this debate both here and in the press is the emotive language used. Sometimes very subtle but once emotions are aroused these subtlties are ignored.
Example... people are fed up... when actually what is meant and proper unbiased reporting would say is.. some people are fed up.
Also notice that it's mostly men getting all macho about things.
It's the done thing nowadays apparently to trash those who do not agree with your world view by picking out ridiculous arguments like one was seen getting a macdonalds burger! Shock horror! Are they not all bleeding heart vegans? How hypercritical of them. Oh my goodness they are all using nylon tents / wearing plastic macs in the rain/have mobile phones etc etc.
I draw to your attention the fact that the original post was made by someone who does not live in the UK but in a Caribbean tax haven but seems to get a kick out of stiring things up with derisive and insidious comments even on other posts that have nothing whatsoever to do with this subject.

The proof speaks for itself, people are dragging them off trains and off public crossings. Driving through protesters on the roads, and grabbing banners because they are trying to get on with their lives.

That’s a very sexist comment about men, “getting all macho” I could easily point you in the direction of some footage of “women” acting all “macho” during protests and rally’s.

Of course I can take them apart and show their hypocrisy and idiocy. They want to push their demands and values, that they can’t even live by, onto the hard working public, on ropey, scaremongering and bias science.
They want to play silly games, they get silly prizes, they want attention, they can’t complain when people give them negative attention.

Live and work in an UK created Tax Haven ( well, I pay duties/taxes on everything I buy, the same as everybody else living here....... Last vehicle I bought, a NIB Defender, I paid 47% on top of the buying price, shipping and insurance). British Overseas Territory.
Part of UK.
So what is our problem with where I live and work? If you decide to work, you can apply to come here. Lots of job opportunities!

I find comments like that funny, coming from you, Woody Girl.
You know that you managed to be Sexist and Xenophobic in that post.
Well done!

You've proved my point. It wasn't a sexist remark. I said ... it's MOSTLY men.. not it is men or only men! Though I didn't see any women attacking the train roof guy. I agree that was stupid.. but again when emotions are high and a person takes a silly decision can you sensibly and rationaly tarr everyone with the same brush ? It's a bit like saying all bikers are hells angels. Simply not true.
