I have recently discovered that Make: magazine (American) also has related podcasts and I expect that some folk on here will enjoy them! Make magazine provides instructions and suggestions for workshop projects completed at home by enthusiasts and they also have a regular 'Makerfaire' meeting, there was one in the UK (Newcastle) a few months ago. They have a sister magazine, Craft.
Make: tends to focus more on electronic technology (soldering, diodes and the like) but perhaps not surprisingly they seem to be fans of pretty much any technology. There's some information, and a little history, about how to use a fire piston in this video.
They seem to be tapping very well into the "let's make our own stuff" movement
