I don't know about what people think about this but,

When I click on a new thread, and discover there is already 2 to 3 pages to get through, I just click out and go somewhewre else.

Reason - because alot of the posts drivel, excuse the word, and they just take up space.

If it doesn't belong, why not edit it.

Not much of a people person are you, Chris? :)
I like to follow a thread, see the discussions for and against develop, and cherry pick through the info offered as defence or explanation. I do agree that if I've read the thread from the start I don't want to *have* to read it all through again, so I just go to the last post or last unread post.....which isn't as simple on the new site I find, but then, I'm a computer clutz :(
Reading the posts does give an idea of the people involved, their own interests and backgrounds; I'm new to this way of talking with people but I've already made friends. :D and excellent contacts.

    Cheers,
    Toddy

I agree with you that some posts are "useless" - sort to speak, and it's a hell of a job to plough through all those new posts and threads when you've been offline, for say a week ... And yes, I agree with you that lots of comments made are off topic, but hey: just like Toddy - I find you get to know the people on the other side of the keyboard in this way (interests etc.).

But in the end this is a public forum with freedom of speech for everyone (with some limitations: no pornographic stuff, etc is allowed - otherwise your butt and you will be banned).
So it wouldn't be fair, or: it would be undemocratic to edit posts after they were made. Looks a bit like censur ... something that doesn't fit in my book.
Most of us live in the UK, not in China ... or the former USSR, DDR, etc.

So, I disagree with you mate: better ploughing through lots of posts, with the freedom of speech - even when it's a hell of job sometimes, than being edited in the way you've got in mind ...

Chris, I think you enjoy rabble rousing alittle too much. :( Your post is debilerately harsh to provoke a response.

However you do have a point i know several pople that spend less time here now due the continous off topic rambling. We should all be our own censors and try to keep banter to pms and posts on topic.

Would be nice too if poeple didn't just post the first couple of results from google in answer to a query.

This site is a great resource for us all to continue our personal development but lets try and post from knowledge and experience.

if you go into the UserCP at top left of the page

and then scroll down to edit options

once there you can change the number of posts per page (more posts = less clicking onto "next" page)

also you can change the way you view the forums, i prefer linear newest first, that way i dont have to trawl thru all the posts i have already read in order to see the one new post at the end

    works for me :)

There is a button so that you can jump to the newest post in a thread. I don't want to be seen to be teaching people to suck eggs or anything, but if you click on the blue square with the white 'v' next to the thread title, it will take you to the newest post since you last read the thread.

    Hope this helps
