Sorry about the size of the pics. I am still wrestling with photobucket trying to work out how to make them smaller.

Wayland's Smithy. It's just off the Ridgeway, a neolithic burial chamber which got its present name courtesy of the Saxons who decided it was the workplace of Wayland, that's Wayland the blacksmith to the Gods, not our resident Viking.

Brings back memories for me too. I grew up in the village at the southern end of the ridgeway. There was a transport cafe on the A4 (no motorways in those days) right by where the ridgeway starts that used to serve haute cuisine to the lorry drivers. One item on the menu was duck a l'orange. I was in there playing the pinball machine one day when a couple complimented the chef on the vegetables. He disappeared for a moment and then re-appeared with a freshly-cut cabbage which he presented to them. Apparently he grew the veg in a garden at the back of the cafe. Never heard of that in a motorway service area!

Fantastic pictures guys. Don't ask me why but I've always had a thing about The Uffington White Horse and Waylands smithy. Goiing to have to get myself organised and visit them.

I love that area too, been several times when staying near Avebury, always wanted to walk the Ridgeway, camping along the way.
I think the photo that you couldn't remember, is of the cradle.

I live in Swindon, right near the ridgeway. Am planning on walking the lot sometime, I do not know of this campsite though, can you give me some more details please?

Cheers!
