    Accidents!

1st time I used my Hennessy exped, the inner rope that joins each end snaped (due to 2 of us using the same tree and moving too much really). No damage done except a very bruised pride. :o Sent it back to them and got a replacement by quick return.

    to all Scout leaders

You could always start as a non-uniformed helper and take it in stages from there. .I am an Explorer leader but I have a good team with me who make it feel like I hardly do anything (till the end of year chase-ups!). It's a big step but remember, it is voluntary, if you don't like it you...

    Nutshells

I wish to pick the collective knowledge here, A friend of mine works for the Scout association and they were asked the other day :- "The original enquiry was if we knew how to cook on walnuts/ almonds, and we assumed they meant using the nuts as a fuel. The lady had heard that you could cook...

    Oilstones, Oil & Dishwashing Liquid

At work we have used a 50/50 oil water mix with a decent splash of washing up liquid  . Obviously these elements will seperate but just shake them before using on oil stones and they will need to be unclogged less often. It does work, honest. :D

    Camp Oven

We made one on scout camp last week, It was a cardboard box wrapped inside and out with two layers of tin foil and a couple of bits of coat hanger across the inside to make a shelf. We roasted 1/2 chickens. Make sure you can hook the flaps shut. It rested on a couple of large logs.

    What wood?

Sorry to take so long to get back to you but my puter is down at the mo (borrowing my mates Libretto). The general consensus at work is Chestnut. The grain looks right and it would be very hard to work as it is "the poor mans oak". Hope this helps rather than adds more confusion. :D

    Scouts and knives

I asked HQ the question and received a mail which saidthat all knives should be securely stored and that no knife is part of the uniform. I had a bit of a run-in with my DESC when he saw my machete he said it was illegal on camp but the info from the info centre at HQ. Give them a bell. :) :)

    scout campsite help

most sites are open all year round as leaders like to take the kids away to experience all weather conditions. A lot of sites only allow fires in half oil drums rather than in fire pits, this is a shame as people need to learn how to prepare a fire pit and clean up after not just how to light...
