I would say it depends on how you obtain it. I have collected rainwater on Dartmoor in the open, collected it on a laid out poncho. I would not drink it as is, if collected from down pipes or other roof channels. But... If I had to drink the latter then I would use a life straw or a surviva...

dunno Crosslandkelly, is that the silly thing that wont fit into the base when packed, 2 thin bits that a sauce pan sits on to cook whatever in it.....I have chosen to leave that bit out of my kit.

Seems you lose water when it comes to the boil as if you arnt quick enough it just spirts out the end.

I purchased webtex surviva-pure drink bottle. After the initial 3 flushes, I used with some known dodgy water. It came out tasting like filtered tap water and clear. It also takes all the chlorine out of household water too. LINK
