Knife Lore and other old customs

I remember reading a book about Wicca and it said that if you needed a new staff or somesuch you should ask any tree you needed to cut from for permission. Not restricted to Elder. If you asked for such permission the tree may suggest a suitable branch to you.

I'm guessing you have other options, so what would be the scenarios you would chose to use this?

    Carinthia expedition bivvy

No experience unfortunately, and I had never heard of the brand until randomly browsing Heinnie Haynes for things I don't need the other week! I'm liking the look of this, but can't decide if it's reassuringly expensive, or just completely overpriced. https://heinnie.com/carinthia-observer-plus...

    EDC Pens?

I tend to prefer a click pen for its one handed operation, but they are only really practical if you have a shirt or jacket pocket to carry them. For a more robust edc I like the Rotring 800 series. Twist top design which can still be done one handed, but the whole writing end retracts so there...

What are your favourite pocket knives?

It's a really nice knife for the price. No complaints at all. It's a ballbearing pivot and the fit and finish seems good to my eyes. Handy little size as well.

What are your favourite pocket knives?

The yellow handled one in my picture is the Case Sodbuster Jr I referenced. Does look quite similar to to your Russell though.

What are your favourite pocket knives?

I've increased my pocketknife collection this year but so far have found 2 to be firm favourites. At home and out and about it's a Case Sodbuster Junior carbon. For work it's a QSP Penguin Mini. I know this is a locking knife, so doesn't really fit the OPs criteria, but the one handed opening...

    What did you buy today?

A new pair of gloves inspired by the gloves thread and 2 pocketknives to finish off my idea of buying a pocketknife a month for 2023. It's gonna end up a bakers dozen though! :O_O:

Swopping over to natural wool bedding.

Cheers. Looks like the current equivalent is the Medium Baavet Wool Duvet which is listed as '400-450gms of wool per m/2. Similar to 8-12 tog rating.'.

    Firelighting failure

In a life or death situation? Fine. Otherwise I'd have hoped that people who enjoy nature and the outdoors might have a bit more respect for the environment! I guess not!

So you know what you are doing is environmentally unfriendly, yet you still do it!:banghead:

    Firelighting failure

I have found that even with cooking/heating devices specifically designed to burn well in windy conditions, that getting them lit in windy conditions is sometimes another matter. To that end I usually carry a foldable aluminium plate wind-break and have used it many times to help get the fire...

Has anyone modded a Hennessy Hammock?

Are you confusing the rings in the video with something else? These are aluminium rappel rings. Needle sports are listing them as 0.045kg (Noticed that is packed weight. 30g on their own.). Not sure if that is your version of a 'ton' but I thought they were pretty light, though I realise that is...
