I actually own this rifle. It is quite nice. Well made and accurate. It would not be my first choice for a rifle but certainly is light and easy to pack. I owned the Charter arms version and the current Henry rifle brand. The Henry is the superior build.
I sanded off the skin of the bamboo and treated it with beewax/mineral oil combo. My hope is that the oiled/waxed bamboo is less likely to crack. I also tried to find bamboo with thick walls. Time will tell.
This is an updated version of my Saami Inspired needle case. I used bamboo instead of reindeer bone. The reindeer herds here are quite rare. The scrimshaw symbols are meaningless. It was just my effort to look Saami-ish. Enjoy

Here is a link to my review of the Emberlit pocket wood stove. I also reviewed their firesteel.

Whoops, sorry. Back on track. Um yes Ray Mears, Excellent chap. I love the approach that he has toward bushcrafting. He is partly why I am in this forum. The British approach has a certain "je ne sais quoi". It is hard to explain. I love my country but I feel more tuned to the...
It is good to laugh. We Yanks are a rustic bunch but always good for laugh. Just look at our election process. I am indeed a sworn Mearist. Whittle and knot beats a rock jumping @wat - that's my motto. I can relate to your issue with "flagellate". I get that when I eat Mexican food.

I guess I must also apologize for the barrage and sorties that the US television has inflicted upon the innocent British television viewers. Now I think that Britain was only acting in self defense. That explains the Piers Morgan situation. You are a small country, but powerful. No...
Indeed. Some of us regard Britain's import of BG to the US airwaves as an act of war. (Much like how we are no longer are allies with Canada since their act of aggression in the Justin Bieber affair). If there is one more show starring BG televised here we will be forced to surrender and...
Ray Mears is a great inspiration to me. His gentle approach seems to meld with nature as opposed to engaging in combat with it. He has an understated strength. I saw the episode where he fought in a tribal wrestling competition (I don't remember where). He swept the floor with the local...
I must make some points here:
1) As one who has lived in bear country and has had friends who were mauled and a sister who has to occasionally fire a warning shot to scare the grizzlys out of her garden, no matter how civilized you are you will want a gun in those conditions.
2) Americans and...
Terrorism does not seem to be an issue in rural Alaska. Gun laws in the US are VERY complicated. What you are allowed to do in Tennessee will get you 16yrs in the pen in New York. In New Hampshire you may open carry an AK47, if you then walk across the border into Massachusetts you will be...
In Alaska a foreign tourist may rent firearms if he/she purchases a hunting license. Its $20 USD and requires 15 minutes to process.
And here is the plain English version on ATF's FAQ page...
Can an alien who enters the United States on a nonimmigrant alien visa rent a firearm for lawful...
Here is the finished product. This is an essential item to keep your fine knives sharp and polished.
This cost virtually nothing. The only significant cost is the polishing compound.
An old leather belt is an excellent source of leather.

I lived in Alaska back in the 1980's. I fear bears. I worked on a logging crew. I tended the blasting drill. We were required to be armed at all times. 150 miles south of us another logging crew lost a couple men due to poor camp placement in bear country. Our camp was a raft moored in a...
I wanted a good sharpening strop.
The one I wanted was $70 USD.
Instead I decided to make one. This is not finished but I thought this might be interesting to someone.
I glued two free, large paint stir sticks together. I am then in the process of gluing some scrap leather to them.
I will...
For me arrows are hard to make.
This one came out quite well. It is made with locally hunted turkey feathers, locally grown river reed and a cow bone arrow head.
Straightening is the most difficult part. I heated the shaft and used elk antler straighteners. I did not have natural pine...
