    Abergwesyn 2

I can heartily recommend it, Harvestman, The walk up the valley from Abergwesyn is superb. Although the tussocks and bog / streams can get a little wearing. It's remote enough and little frequented enough, that I've never seen anyone else up there.

    Abergwesyn 2

The dome is one of two 'beehive' cairns on the summit ridge of Drygarn Fawr. The mist was superb, just a nip in the air first thing in the morning. The tarp was for the kids, I stayed in MLD Trailstar luxury, looking forward to the next adventure.

    Abergwesyn 2

Here's some pictures of a recent wild camp on Drygarn Fawr, I loved it so much the first time I went in May, that I took my friend and his son in September. Anyway hope you like the pictures.

    Rough Camping At Rough Close!

Rough close is great, the kids have fun and explore safely, they can use SAK's without fear of being hounded by the authorities and best of all a camp fire is positively encouraged (I often bring the wood from home though). Matt the open pitch is superb, it feels even more roomy and is great for...

MLD Trailstar - My first pitch!

Yes that's the pitch, I used it at Rough Close and in my garden when testing, in sheltered spots I think it will be awesome.

MLD Trailstar - My first pitch!

Welcome to the Trailstar club! I wouldn't go back now, I'm even considering selling my Hammock set up. It truly is a palace for one and even fits 2 with comfort and room to spare, I also went with a 3:1 ratio for sealing and I haven't had a leak yet, although it's only been out in light rain. I...

TGO Challenge 2012 - My Crossing of Scotland

I use the same boot and the only issue I find, is that if you get water over the top and in the boot, the goretex lining takes an age to drain, to counter this I take a sealskinz sock for camp use in the wet boot and give my feet a chance to dry out and as Shewie says, thin socks for walking in...

Alternatively look at attaching fixings into the roof joists across the rooms corners. But check out hammcok forums for the 'Hammock Calculator' which is a sobering insight into the forces generated by hammock suspension.

Plus 1 to that, check out Hammock Forums and have a look at the 'Turtle Dog stand' or similar.

So I've just weighed my kit..

I tend to use the most appropriate kit for the job at hand, if I have it, but I am a gear *****. So for family camping it's heavy robust kit, for the woods if I'm not travelling far then it's comfort not weight, if it's wild camping then the lighter the better. Where I can, I double up the usage...

A night Out On Abergwesyn Common

You are spot on, I was trying to box round the marked marshes only to realise the whole watershed south of Drygarn Fawr is one area of bog and the occasional rock. What looked like passable terrain was in reality a series of streamlets and riverlets interspersed with bog, rock and tussocks all...

A night Out On Abergwesyn Common

No, his first 'proper wild camp' was last May, when we went to Llyn Caseg Fraith and we have had a few 'semi wild camps to Rough Close'. He has said that this trip was his best yet and I have to agree, I've done many wild camps in the past both in the army and with friends, but there was...

A night Out On Abergwesyn Common

I can certainly recommend it, it's very quiet and doesn't attract the masses like the honey pots of Snowdonia and The Brecon beacons. Thanks for the kind words everyone.

    Return to Snowdonia

Excellent report and photo's, Was the area around Llyn Caseg Fraith boggy? When I was there last year the ground was sopping wet with virtually no purchase for the pegs. I'm liking that caldera / fosters stove setup. It's certainly an impressive area of rugged terrain, thanks for sharing.
