    Tree ID please. Nothofagus?

    Found this tree at Saltram Park, Plymouth. Sort of looks like Beech with shorter, less pointy buds. Fruit also looks Beechy. Is it just a funny looking Beech, or a Nothufagus?

    Fairly normal sized hands. But yes, that's why I'm not sure. Plus, red colouring you can see is consistent(ish) with juvenile greater.

    We felled a tree last summer (for safety reasons) and while I was de-limbing it I found this little fella in one of the crevices. He is very dried out so can't see for definite if it's a Greater or Lesser. He seems very small. Hoping someone with more knowledge has an idea...

    Found in Devon by woodland edge habitat. Looks like something in the rose family, but I really don't know what. Francis Rose has been no help at all unfortunately. Link to pictures

    School me on Merino Wool t-shirts

    I think merino t shirts keep you cooler than cotton, and warmer than cotton when it's cold! Plus they don't smell as much. I wore the same one working for a week and a half once and it still didn't smell.

    Clinometer

    I used a clinometer app for my dissertation (which involved measuring tree heights, among other things). It does work very well, the app I used had a 'lock' system, where it would save the angle when held for a certain period of time. I also used a 30cm ruler lined up with the edge of the phone...
