    Making a polypore razor strop?

Cheers folks, it looks like I'll use the top for the strop, and I'll dry the sides and try them for tinder. Spamel, hope your mate is mending well, I've got some powdered Yarrow prepared for my next little accident, ;) .

    Making a polypore razor strop?

Has anyone made one? I've got a lovelly big lump of Birch Polypore to make into a razor strop, but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. I would guess I just take a slice and glue it to a board, but should it be dried first? and what type of glue is recommended? Any tips are welcome. I...

    North east bushcraft weekends

I'll do my best to help out, if I can make it, Eric. I don't seen to have had much time to get away at all this year, and I've just noticed it's nearly August already!

Putting a patina on a carbon blade

I don't know about a tatty, but if you slice an onion with it, you'll get a nice irridescent sort of effect, a bit like colour case hardening.

    Coleman Colorado at Costco

I'm certainly interested, any chance of a bit more info about costco, do you have to be in the trade? or can anyone apply for membership? If so are there any members near me in the North East who could help out? I've been after a beginers boat big enough for two for a while, but have seen...

    a good quality belt supplier

Why not have one custom made. If you go to British Blades and track down Tiffers (won't take long, she's one of the mods), she works as a saddler I think, and has a reputation for making very good quality belts.

    GB Axes surface finish

If you just want to colour the surface of the steel, try rubbing it with half an onion, then letting it dry before oiling it, I think this gives a nice "patina" on steel, but you may want to try it on something first to see if you like it, I dicovered the effect by accident after slicing an...

    leather dye

I think it is also important to remember that leather is a natural material and that is part of it's appeal. I would also recommend getting hold of some surgical gloves to protect your hands if you're doing a bit of dyeing, as it turns out my hands are covered with a leather like material...

    GB Axes surface finish

I'd have thought it is from when the axe head is quenched after heating, I know the blades I've quenched in oil come out with a black/grey coating on the surface.

    £41 pencil???

I bought a copy of that book in a discount bookshop years ago, but back then it was just written by that bloke off "Tracks". It is a very good book though, with plenty of photos and illustrations.

    Salmon Run

Some salmon will have started their run by now, fish caught early in the year are called "springers" and are more likely to be found in the lower reaches of a river. As the year moves on more fish enter the river, and more fish move up towards the head of the river. They enter the river between...

    Pine Resin

If you scar the bark, (run a the edge of a chainsaw down the side of the tree) it will produce loads of resin, I've seen paths through plantations marked this way, as the resin is white. Just don't go mad, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of it.

    Coleman Viper tent

I've got a Coleman Boa, which is the slightly larger one and it is excellent, but one of the zips is crap, and this is something I would make a point of checking if you get one.
